What is your BA in?
This is a great writeup on this, thanks for sharing. I’ll at least link my friends who are convinced this is happening so they won’t read it.
We had a guy at the place I worked a few jobs ago who did nothing but slowly single-finger peck out regexes all day. His job title was “SEO Guru”.
100%. I’m trying to swear less just to avoid the punctuation-level swearing that feels childish to me. But replacement swear words that have the same sentiment feel even more childish and pointless to me.
We even have sea unicorns, land unicorns don’t seem too far fetched.
Correct. If you do it now, there’s a notice about this feature going away.
My favorite Calibre thing was when the creator was interviewed and asked about the common complaint that Calibre is ugly and he was basically like “actually it’s not.”
I’m slightly younger (born in 86) but went through a similar thought process a couple of years back. I remembered being an avid reader as a kid but could barely make it through a book or two a year, and struggled to maintain any form of attention span. I forced myself to read more for about the first month, then I got addicted to it again and ended up reading 42 books that year. I’m very conscious now about pretty much always having my devices in some form of focus mode/app time limits and prioritizing focus/reading time. I feel much better.
Damn, that’s a long run!
Honestly I’ve been getting much happier the less fucks I give.
I noticed this feature wasn’t available for my Colorsoft and asked support about it. They assured me it would be added later. This is exactly what I expected to happen.
Same. I feel like I’d look so weird with hair now.
I’ve made a couple of Firefox extensions just for personal/fun stuff, might give this a shot.
Hah yeah I guess I combined those confusingly. It was both of those things hitting around the same time, I switched to FF and DDG.
I switched to DDG recently due to the manifest v3 changes and AI junk and have been really liking it. It feels like what Google used to be when it was good.
I’m running it on a 2019 MBP and haven’t had issues.
I build Craft CMS sites at work. It’s a paid product, but has a free version with some minor limitations and is open source. It’s fantastic.
I’ll take it.
I use LLM-type AI every day as a software developer. It’s incredibly helpful in many contexts, but you have to understand what it’s designed to do and what its limitations are.
I went back and forth with Claude and ChatGPT today about its logic being incorrect and it telling me “You’re right,” then outputting the same/similar erroneous code it output before, until I needed to just slow down and fix some fundamental issues with its output myself. It’s certainly a force multiplier, but not at any kind of scale without guidance.
I’m not convinced AI, in its current incarnation, can be used to write code at a reasonable scale without human intervention. Though I hope we get there so I can retire.
SNRIs, getting older, and being much more selective about the fucks I give.
