Admins said it was promoting hate against a vulnerable minority. I don’t care about the account, but that part made me furious. Why kowtow to russia?

I had previous temp bans for saying things like what should happen to nazis (they called it promoting violence 🙄) and other times calling out russian trolls.

That site has really gone to shit since their acquisition. They let trolls run free, and ban people for calling them out.

This rings true with each passing day.

Reddit loves banning decent humans and they love appeasing Nazis and protecting astroturfing bots. Maybe one day they’ll realize that bots don’t bring in ad revenue.

You’re right, and I could have ignored it, but that just allows the problem to fester and russia is pouring a lot of money into their hybrid war against the west. This is how disinformation and psyops spreads, and the west is so far failing to impose adequate safeguards.

In this case, “doing your part” is probably accelerating the downfall of platforms you disapprove of by not participating in them. They have influence because of their critical mass, so leaving hurts them. They just don’t care or notice until they no longer have critical mass. No social media has ever regained it once lost.

To be fair, if you started calling random people russian trolls on my sub I’d ban you, too.

I’m not saying reddit bans aren’t often unwarranted, but some of y’all deserve the bans and unfortunately wind up on the fediverse because you think your bullshit will be accepted here. No one that’s ever been banned thought that deserved it just like no one thinks they’re a bad person, yet bad people exist.

Nah, they ban everything that breathes. They just have so many people that they can’t ban them all at once.

Welcome to Lemmy. Here you will inevitably be banned too, but making a new account is trivial and moderators are more lazy.

You’re painting with such an ocean-size brush, that you might as well be talking about anything at all. It comes down to details, facts and reality, and I’m not hearing anything persuasive from you.

I’ve been on the FV 2.5yrs now, and only once ran in to a ban-happy mod, here. And I’ve rarely heard other people complain about it, either.

              Just don’t be an asshole.

Look at the age of my account.

I also have no problem with controversial takes or conflict.

              And yet, still no ban.

Most moderators do have problems with controversial takes. And most people will call you “asshole” if you don’t share their ideas.

I see your statement as a “survivor mistake”.

Screenshots can be easily manipulated by Inspect Element. Like for example:

There’s no way for us to authenticate OP’s claim with 100% certainty unless we had access to Reddit’s backend and could verify the comment history directly.

Plus, this story was told entirely from OP’s perspective. Can we verify with 100% certainty that that was exactly what was said? Are we for certain that OP didn’t say anything else? How do we know if the full sentence wasn’t “Go back to the muscovite empire and I hope your entire family gets raped”?

And how do we know Reddit didn’t see a larger pattern of TOS-breaking comments and simply included one excerpt in the ban notice to OP? I know for Reddit moderators, they’re restricted to being able to include only one single rule-infringing comment in a ban notification sent to users, even if multiple messages were problematic. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reddit admins had the same limitation.

That’s why I always take “I got banned by Reddit admins” posts on the Fediverse with a grain of salt. There’s too much missing information to judge. OP might be telling the truth, or they might not. I don’t have enough evidence either way, so I’ll reserve judgment and move on.

The dude was trying to accuse Mamdani of genocide. There’s no way anyone could argue that in good faith. After he ignored multiple prompts to suggest a better alternative, I lost patience with him.

So many bad faith actors out there trying to divide the left with petty squabbles and ideological purity tests, which they plainly will never be satisfied on. Not worth engaging with.
