Now that health care has become such a hot potato in the US, why dont these AI people do something about it? My suggestion is that you create a separate partition on your PC in which you run offline a ada or medgemmi LML on a minimal distro, which feeds directly off your medical records stored encrypted on your PC. If you combine this with a price aggregator, and feed into your medical lml both your personalized health data, but also available off the counter tests and medication, with price comparison, you would have something where there is now nothing. And you can expand on it by adding video consultations with doctors in a low cost country, that is a very cheap remote specialist. If that remote GP then could prescribe to you some medication. that would be great. But here we enter into more difficult terrain. Still, this an attempt to create something free for those with no help at all. It is just a common interface for free options that now exist. But they are worth mentioning because you do actually get both cheap blood work, remedies based on science and a real specialist, but remote.
In addition, there are many commercial phone apps which utilize the sensors on your phone. Here you could make one app that covers what is possible in stead of one for each, and you can also update phones and pc with optional devices to enhance diagnostics, for instance for those with specific needs. But simply automating the flow of these diagnostic data into your PC health journal will make the AI diet recommendations or other recommendations more accurate. If you then go berserk, and add to your offline encrypted records the result of DNA profiles in terms of health…) And this I envision to be completely offline in a separate encrypted partition, which means that price comparison engines would be a simple browser add on in your regular browser, but you could download searches and transfer these in your offline encrypted partition via usb, after reboot. Also the browser add on would offer zipped or rared packages of searches containing price data, which you then downloaded and integrated into your offline distro, and only there would you search out the product or service you need, free from those who might see your searches by normal snooping via the net. You would be offline.
I would also like to add that in an age when there is exponential difference between computing power in data centers and your tiny PC, new laws concerning the protection of health data must be passed because of the cryptography issue. Meaning that those who steal your records, must be prevented from using it for anything. So you may steal it, but if it becomes known you will achieve nothing, only go to prison. So you get no benefits of any kind, concerning any issue at all by stealing medical data. If the state does not do this, there will be huge issues. And i must remind you that everyone can become ill, even those who are powerful or who think they are protected. Then they too must visit a doctor. So it not just for those of us who do not matter, but also for the tech barons themselves.
I must add that I am not a doctor, i dont even have any course in science above high school. My background is in digital humanities. So my knowledge proteins and carbohydrates is limited what I have been able to google. And until quite recently, I trusted the system in place here in Europe. But I then read about what is happening in the uS.

ai slop won’t fix healthcare. is it that much easier to imagine than a sane healthcare system?
Something is better than nothing for many. You can aim for better things, you can fight for it. But this software i mention can be made at low cost, distributed for free online, and have some use. And you can still keep on fighting. It will be a glass of water on your long trek.
gpus and ram that run remotely decent llms are not cheap. and there ain’t enough to go around, datacenters are getting them all.
If you use debian as your base in your new partition, you get a lower pressure on your cpu and gpu, you should then be able to run at least the smallest medgemmi from google, which is free. Or ada. And then all you need to modify is adding your health data. I have an old PC and managed to run the smallest medgemmi (I am not sure about the name). It was slow, but i am not on debian. And i have a shoe string pc, but a small cpu, a very old motherboard. So If you update just slightly, set your os in an ssd on an m2 port, a modest but decent gpu you would in fact get sufficient power to run perhaps even the second largest med lml from google. so 1. reduce overhead small OS, 2. os on m2 port and modest but good gpu.
sure. the llm tells you to take specific prescription only medicine and do a small surgical procedure, nothing a seasoned doctor couldn’t do.
assuming the veracity of its diagnosis against the odds, what now?
Then you use the free video GP, and then you use the diets that are suited to your condition. So at some point you must get to see a doctor. But you will have help with diets, exercises for strained backs, many afflictions that are not terminal, but which can become chronic and disabling and prevent and reduce your income. It could be knees, or strained ankles or high or low blood pressure rooted in unhealthy diet habits. And this will be founded on science. It isnt true that everyone who goes to a doctor is dying. Some elderly people just go because they are lonely, and every little thing makes them nervous. It is then that little conversation that heals. So I am not replacing anything serious, i am placing many home remedies on a scientific footing by allowing an Ai bot to work as intermediary between an ordinary person and articles filled with terminology they do not understand.
can’t people simply look it up though?
i mean that’s what i already do when i’m not sick enough to pay for the expensive medicine, but sick enough to need some relief.
truly keeping on top of health seems less like an information issue and more like a time/money one.
