Lol, I’ve done this exact thought experiment. Heck I practically brainstormed a version of Eternals in my head once, but instead of being Gods posing as humans, they were mortal Reincarnated Individuals who knew everyone/everything was reincarnated, but what gave them advantages in this world was that they remembered their past lives, and could use that accumulated knowledge for good and for ill.

Its a cool little concept that somebody will turn into a TV series/Movie/Video Game at some point I’m sure.

TLDR; I’m vehemently agnostic.

I believe that if there is a “God” entity, that it is incomprehensible and not worth attempting to understand.

I also don’t believe in an anthropocentric “God”, in that “God” doesn’t inherently value nor not value humans as somehow special nor damned. I also don’t believe “God” cares nor doesn’t care about humans or existence.

I also don’t believe in inherent meaning, nor that there is some form of divine justice. Those are human lenses through which we interpret the world, and are unlikely to apply (at least in the same way as a human) to the supposed viewpoint of an eternal omniscient omnipotent entity that created the universe and will supposedly one day close the door on time and its own existence.

In short, I’m one bleak motherfucker and it doesn’t matter if “God” exists or not. Either way, I don’t get to survive death. What is eternal about me is inherently not a part of me. It is mortality, true mortality, mortality of the consciousness and the ego and the individual that defines the individual. When that dies, "God” or not, either way there is no individual to somehow surpass death.

This thread led me down a bit of a rabbit hole, so I suppose I’ll post some of my meager findings.

Of course, the Wikipedia Article On The Guillotine includes a brief history documenting the evolution of it’s invention, but is sparse on the technical specifications, which online searches also turned up a bit sparse.

As a morbid aside, the Wikipedia article details under the Controversy Section the dispute as to whether a decapitated head remained alive shortly after the beheading and the eye witness account of someone witnessing the staring of a decapitated man’s eyes after calling out his name multiple times. The description is deliciously macabre.

The oligarchs running these companies have suffered a psychotic break. What the cause exactly is I don’t know, but the game theyre playing is a lot less about profits now. They care about control and power over people.

I theorize it has to do with desperation over what they see as an inevitable collapse of the United States and they are hedging their bets on holding onto the reigns of power for as long as possible until they can fuck off to their respective bunkers while the rest of humanity eats itself.

Then, when things settle they can peak their heads out of their hidie holes and start their new Utopian civilization or whatever.

Whatever’s going on, profits are not the focus right now. They are grasping at ways to control the masses…and failing pretty miserably I might add…though something tells me that scarcely matters to them.

I knew dudemanguy would eventually make a post like this. I use the distro(Artix Linux) he’s a maintainer on Artix, and he’s a solid dude that is always willing to help and gives solid help.

I have both riverwm and bspwm along with Wayland and X on my system and honestly have stuck on X because getting my workflow exactly the same on Wayland has been a technical hurdle of learning Zig (riverwm is written in Zig), and so far, with the exception of the occasional race condition, X just works.

I want to convert to Wayland, and will probably get around to making my own custom scripts in zig for working with riverwm. But until then, X/bspwm is where I live.
