Is this like all Lemmy everywhere or just a selection of large instances? Does it account for people that host their own instances and come into the larger spaces to interact? I feel like there’s context missing before jumping to conclusions.
nods pensively
Where’s HL3?

4·3 months agoSo glad I saw this post I’ve had an 8th gen kindle jammed under a pile of bullshit for quite a while because fuck bezos. Ended up being able to use winter break and now I can use the device without contributing to fascism. Today was a good day!

6·3 months agoIts a good suggestion and something I’ve considered. Unfortunately we’re using conduit as our server and that type of integration doesn’t seem to work well outside of synapse. That said I know some people have gotten it working I just need to dig a little deeper. It’s a chore for sure but it seems like the only path forward.

361·3 months agoI wish I could convince my giant discord community to go anywhere else. It’s so fucking hard. I’ve built IRC networks and a matrix server. I host every fediverse app imaginable. I hate being attached to this company and my income being reliant on it.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Spare mini PCs? What would you do with them?English
1·4 months agoI’ve been curious about running a hardware firewall/router, I’ve seen it discussed but don’t know much about it. I also hear a lot of people swear by their proxmox setups but I am a complete noob there so again more research would be required. What I’ve heard about running a proxmox setup has looked overwhelming at a glance.

1·4 months agolol I haven’t heard the “RAID is not a backup” before but it’s true I’ll have to see how I would manage that and what data would be a good candidate for this implementation.

2·4 months agoI have a ton of handhelds I usually use for this purpose and a pretty powerful workstation I use to run heavier games but I’ve thought about like a tv box setup for doing such activities in the living room. Could be fun.

1·4 months agoThanks for the response. I currently am housing something like 24TB of data give or take so unfortunately I don’t think they’d make effective backups. There’s simply too much. I have my current storage array in RAID6 so that’s my backup solution at the moment.
