Its the only way I roll when it comes to ebooks

Actually its the only thing I’d like to find in an open comic reader for iOS (iPad, my only iOS device, work bought it for me). Panels supports it (paid version), but I have yet to find an open source solution for iOS that does (for comics specifically).

For android quite a few do out of the box. Definitely recommended.

I’d also recommend checking out a server that uses it to try it out. Calibre-server supports it if you want to check it out.

OPDS is the only real hard requirement for me in an eBook reader app.

I’m fine with keeping equipment in the rack if its secured, but I always remove the cabling. I personally don’t think people pay much attention to that part.

I’d also put packing between devices. Since its all going in the uhaul, I wouldn’t personally feel the need to separate anything out of the rack, I’d probably leave it in and just check all my mounts are secure. I’d also make sure the rack is secured well in the uhaul, strapped in with a blanket between it and the wall.

I’d consider Jellyfin if the end user access was more plug and play.

Honestly if it could support multi-server login cleanly, that would be the trick right there.

That said, haven’t had any issues, but I did have to help family set it up the first time.

The important part is that its giving clean power to your hardware, and it only needs to last long enough to shut down nicely. Batteries in these units are usually just car or wheelchair batteries, so you can get them cheaper just as a regular battery too.

You can also grab an older UPS with a crapped out battery for cheap and swap the battery. Last time I did that I got the UPS for $10 (local pickup) and put a new battery in for $20 from Lowes. Battery is still solid, its been about 5 years for that one.

Worth taking a look at the battery - especially an old one on a repurposed device - before considering it safe. Spicy pillows happen.

US power sucks plenty!

Texas is an extreme example, but outages happen everywhere. It was only a bit over 10 years ago when Sandy basically hit half the US and took power out in the tristate area for weeks. With climate change making things worse…

But even when things are running well, not including the random downed line or busted transformers, its still better to give your hardware clean power and avoid the small spikes.

If I can, I buy direct downloads.

If I can’t do that, I’ll buy the CD (as long as its direct or a small label).

If I can’t, or its one of the big labels, I’ll find it elsewhere. I’d rather buy merch to support the artist directly than buy anything that goes through the big labels.

Ah, admittedly I avoid that problem entirely, I have an MTR, a ZR, etc running on devices here (hardware/software testing stuff), so I don’t need to run meetings on my desktop often.

Edit: Just to note, I’ve done USB passthrough with VMs that were ZR builds and such, so that can be done. But I think if your sharing from there it can get messy (USB video capture and such as your sharing method, so on).

I have several for work that will likely never work in Linux.

So those have a nice little VM they sit on, which has been stripped bare of the nonsense. Remote desktop access enabled, and I can do what I need whenever.

Mythbusters streamlined is like that. A bit rough on some cuts imo, but overall just cuts the fluff.

Studio monitors are excellent choices, but expensive. I’ve used genelecs for pretty much every audio workstation I’ve ever done, I’m a huge fan, but you’re also talking $800 and up.

You can sometimes find a good deal on some used studio monitors, which to me is the way to go. A long ways back I decommissioned some genelecs for a studio (surprise surprise, the new studio had newer versions of the same model), and I’ve been using them since at home. Roughly 15 years now.

I wouldn’t say they are wrong, I’ve got plenty of issues with Firefox that aren’t in chromium-based browsers. Mostly with media playback, but on Android the toolbar hide on scroll is a mess, no matter what it just covers the page. Makes it really hard to use a menu or click a button depending on where it is. I also have some locally run services that throw js errors in FF but not in cromite, chromium, or chrome.

Doesn’t mean I don’t prefer FF because I acknowledge it has problems. I don’t generally view videos in my browser anyway, and I disable the hide-on-scroll feature. And if I have a particularly problematic site (the js errors), I open cromite or whatever.

The bigger issue isn’t people talking about bugs, but downplaying the role the foundation plays in supporting users. That, imo, is where a lot of misinformation and disinformation seems to live.

Dockge would be more appropriate for that.

Watchtower has different functionality, mainly keeping them up to date with images.

You want Jenkins, GH Actions, or even ansible.

Personally I think anything prod level should be manual updates only anyway.

Creating a bug report or feature request can be done without having to create an account, and the backend tools (including blocking instances) are being completed first.

It’s not like it’s forced either. You can just run it local and have no federation (once the feature is out of course, right now you wouldn’t have it regardless).

For one thing, more FOSS focused. It’s lighter/faster for me than a self hosted gitlab, there is nothing hidden behind a paywall, they are working on some nice activitypub integration, actions are really handy (yes it’s a bit of yaml soup), codeberg is using and supporting it, a better focus on security and stability than gitea (where it forked from), the ux is clean, and that’s about what I can think of off the top of my head.
