I don’t agree. It is capitalism, but not in a bad way. Simply put it is economy logic. Chip market has shifted from consumer market to the enterprise market.
So because the supply is limited, the demand has gone way up, and enteprise market has a lot, a mean a lot of money to spare buying, because it is an investment for them and not entertainment.
Also some bad capitalist tacticts in other areas, hard drives for example, that the big players reduced production to keep prices from falling. They cotribute to the problem, but they are not the major factor.

I don’t know about HDDs but for SSDs they hit a very low price last September 2023, and the companies decided to cut production so the prices go up again. It worked, today SSD drives are more expensive than last year. I bet they did something similar to the HDD, but it’s only hypothetical.

You see even if you don’t have the dlc and patches with cartridges, you have something. 10-30 years from now, if Nintendo closes the eshop, like they did with 3ds, and your console breaks meanwhile (or you forget/cant download all the games you own), you are done. You have nothing. Same goes for Playststion, Steam etc.
Yeah digital games are convenient, but the only thing i know that offers some preservation/redundancy and is legal today, is GOG.
