Developers make software because they want to, or because they are paid to.
Consumers can use free software because it fits their needs, or they can pay for software if the free options don’t suffice.
Consumer demand for paid software drives paid software development.
You claim to be an open source developer, cool. There are people who are not developers who can’t contribute code but still want software. Sometimes that software needs to be paid because some free options aren’t “there” yet. Yes they could pay or donate to open source developers, but they can also tell a company they want to pay for linux software which is what this thread is about, in a community that isn’t focused on open source software
To play devils advocate: please name me an entire open source list of alternatives for each part of affinity studio/adobe suite.
For bonus points, all programs should be mutually agreed by other people as “the best not Adobe” and for extra extra points, they should all be part of a studio package for ease of installation for creatives
Now if someone made these demands in an open source thread they’d probably get a new asshole ripped open for being entitled with such requirements for free software. Instead, someone is saying they’d pay for affinity Linux software that meets this criteria but youre telling them to use open source which is not helpful.
Don’t get me wrong, open source is great. I do use gimp but i still need alternatives to affinity studio and it would’ve made moving to Linux much easier if i could use affinity on Linux.
Not sure, but before using any AI girlfriend id check it this video. I think it does a good job of not poking fun at the subject but instead genuinely look into it and what can be learned from it.
I count only 11 🤔
But top left has best vibe
I think that’s just a Firefox acct that uses firefox sync if you enable it. To remove it turn off sync and i imagine you can log out of the acct.
I haven’t been on reddit since i joined lemmy and i have zero interest in returning even though none of my accts were ever banned
Yeah fingerprinting can isolate you pretty well. The whole ad/ marketing industry ‘depends’ on it. If you have webgl enabled you’re fucked because they’ll get a whole bunch of information on your monitors and gpu which is a good identifier even if two people have the same gpu. Apart from webgl, there are also tracking techniques with Javascript, invisible pixels, local storage, ip addresses, etc.
If you want to start protecting yourself a bit more then look into librewolf (a hardened Firefox fork) and turn off Javascript unless you explicitly allow it on a given site. There’s more you can do but like i said this would be a “start”
Interesting. I dont want to use obsidian because it’s not open source, and i didn’t like logseqs forced bullet-points (even if they do pretty cool things with children when using bidirectional linking). I tried logseq for a few weeks and just couldn’t get used to it
This article has nothing to do with LLMs. Get off your soapbox and peddle on another corner.
Ai is not at a dead end. LLMs, a subset of AI is at a dead end.
Would you like this in excel formula, VBA, or python?
It can be done in all. You’re only proving the other poster’s point. Excel isn’t necessarily the best option for tech literate people but given the tech illiteracy of many offices, it isn’t surprising they use excel for stuff like this.
Constant real-time surveillance of populations, analyzed by Oracle-powered machine-learning products, would keep everyone “on their best behavior,”
Ive been meaning to re-watch the minority report.
Was already planning to switch to Linux but thanks for the deadline ✌️
Being nonprofit also doesn’t prevent you from doing commercial activities.
But i think the idea would be if they are forced to be nonprofit and their code open-sourced then there is now transparency in how their LLMs are trained and operate.
But it’s a bit silly to try to make AI companies nonprofits to begin with since they could just go to another country with “better” laws if they are punished too heavily in one country.
The elite are scared and exerting power to try to keep it from the public. Why? Because it is short, easy to read, and easy to understand.
You could always go down the privacy rabbit hole and look into how you can resist fingerprinting and use a vpn to evade the ban.
Or if there’s a community you’re really missing that doesn’t exist yet you could always create it here
