The data brokers can still sell your data, it’s just a lot less useful to the marketing teams or scam artists that are buying it in bulk. For identity thieves, it may become more valuable, at least until word of your death works its way through the system, as there’s no living person to contest the impersonation.

I don’t understand the appeal of a wireless mouse or keyboard in most situations. You still have it on the desk right next to the computer, it’s not like you’re using it from far away, and now you’ve got to think about keeping the battery charged. Wireless headphones make a bit more sense, because you’re wearing them.

GeForce 256 on my first Windows computer when I went to college. Before that, I was using motherboard graphics on a series of Macs growing up.

The idea was one computer on the LAN would hold the “talking stick” (the token) and transmit whatever data it needed to, then pass the token off to the next computer in the ring. If a computer received the token and didn’t have anything to transmit, it’d just pass on the token. The problem would be detecting when one of the computers in the loop had gone offline or crashed and taken the token with it. After some amount of time with no traffic, some system was responsible for generating a new token and an amended turn order. Similar problems existed when a new computer wanted to get added to the rotation.

Interesting use of terms. In Discworld Dwarven society, being lowborn would be a good thing and while being high born is only one step below surface dweller. Why not? The Democrats would have won 5 of the 6 elections this century if it were popular vote instead of the Electoral College. (And that last one would be suspect, too, it was George W Bush’s reelection. If he wasn’t elected in 2000, who knows how the 2004 election would have played out.)
