  • I’m pulling all of this from memory, so YMMV… Victoria was a paid person from Reddit who worked on the AMA subreddit only. Her job was to basically go around and get celebrities and other interesting people to do AMAs and then would help schedule them and coordinate the whole thing. In some cases even helping to type out answers. If I’m recalling correctly Reddit just got too corporate and decided to terminate her out of the blue. The community fought back, but nothing big ever changed or happened. After she went away AMA basically turned into a shitshow of no one actually doing anything. She was legitimately a powerful tool at Reddit but they just got rid of her.

  • Commercial displays cost more because backlight testing and ratings double or triple. You’re paying more for longer uptime since your display is likely to run 12+ hours a day straight and not for 1-2 hours a day with an occasional 8+ hour usage. You’re also paying actual cost, but a lot of it really has to do with testing and materials that are built to survive consistent and frequent usage, plus centralized management. Lots of people assume it’s the same shit, but it’s completely different and it shows when you buy a consumer off the shelf display and put it in production.

Configurator if you have a MacOS device already and want the OG. Plus it does allow for device supervision. Although you may have to register as an enterprise system for that. That’s really going to be the key thing here as last time I recall signing my org up for MDM we had to provide tax documents.

Apple uses JAMF, and their prices are so low and it’s so easy that for strictly Apple devices I’d go that route. I do believe there is an on prem version of Jamf as well, but you still pay yearly for it.

There’s also Hexcloud, whatever VMware is calling there’s now, and technically sccm can do device MDM.

Main benefits come from supervised mode. On iPads you can enable multi user support with sign in. You can remove access to messaging or other apps, but beyond that the differences between MDM and parental locks aren’t as wide.
