This system is so easily gamed by report spam. I’ve gotten multiple warnings on my account for “violence” removed after appealing, their system is automating this somehow and it’s not doing a good job. Really that’s just the story of Reddit for the past several years, they cast a wide net and piss off a lot of people now. They used to be a lot more hands-off but now they’re just controlling fuckwits.

When they IP banned me, I just turned off wifi on my phone and created a new account with a separate browser. But looking back reddit was never worth it. We’re all very addicted to this toxic form of crowd sourced moderated information. I’m not really convinced Lemmy is better on a design level, the upvote system is identical and doesn’t prevent echo chambers. I guess there’s autonomy with instances, so that’s nice…
Once you understand how reddit admins are basically mods themselves it kind of makes sense. The company has hired lots of power mods over the years that don’t “respect the human”. And the forces that be want to continue profiting from volunteer mods’ free labor. It says a lot more about the individual reddit admins that they make the lazy decisions they do.
That’s part of the enshittification rug pull, they take over as the hub of forums for most of the internet and then gatekeep as a power play.
Could be related to them going public - people are scrutinizing their operations a bit more. Same reason the view count for subreddits suddenly went down by a factor of 10 post-IPO. They always have been, and always will be corrupt.
But really, they’ve banned me in very insulting ways. I only keep an account around in case I really need to engage with a niche hobby subreddit, and it’s barely ever used. This company should understand what the consequences of burning bridges with a user base is.
I have one, but I typically only get IP banned when I message moderators in any way. Not worth entertaining these dictator simulator enthusiasts.

Reddit doesn’t ban for multiple accounts, they actually tolerate it but so little you have to make sure each account never even views anything the other account engaged with in any way. Reddit runs the site with zero-trust and is mostly getting the user base they deserve.
Well, thank GNOME for it being somewhat usable, but I have higher standards.
How are they going to drop updates for something they have to spend zero energy on to stay compatible? Windows 11 is a low effort UI re-hash with some minor kernel iterations. I love and miss the Linux desktop and want it to succeed, but it’s clear there’s a bias here meant to push a narrative.

I’ll use Windows 10 and pay for the updates for years while using old versions of office. Fuck Windows 11.
But how are you going to integrate with active directory? Oh right you can’t, it just limits you to Ubuntu. And good luck finding a company with an IT department that knows how to set that up.

Meanwhile I am using local models through home assistant. The fact I can run something equivalent to GPT 3.5 turbo on a $800 graphics card kind of negates any of the benefits of these dumb integrations that require NPUs. Maybe Microsoft should bring back basic quality of life improvements that were in Windows 10 in Windows 11 instead of desperately waving their arms around trying to be relevant to consumers. Dumbasses.

Once the VC money dried up, Reddit showed its true face, which directly reflects the character and integrity of the management. It’s really disgusting how evil Reddit in particular is though when you really think about it. They gaslighted users for years about it being a grassroots type of community site, only to pull the rug on anyone not toeing their line. Even if that’s just saying one wrong thing to an admin, boom, IP banned. Your involvement never mattered. They’re horrible people and treat people like crap.
Funny, I often run into the most combative people with “ACKCHYUALLY” attitudes when speaking to libertarians. Republican Pot Smoking Edition models of political worldview tend to try very hard to defend their very nuanced mental gymnastics of being able to be a little empathetic on the surface socially while still turning their back on those less fortunate in actions.
If by staff you mean “volunteers”, then yes. The actual Reddit staff that helped facilitate AMAs disappeared during the Ellen Pao drama.
At least have some dignity and be grounded in the reality of where this company is aligned politically. Reddit doesn’t care about you or anything other than emulating everything Elon Musk does.
