It depends on the version of Lemmy that your instance is running. My account is on sh.itjust.works which upgraded Lemmy versions a few months ago. Apparently it changed a parameter name that keeps track if a post has been read or not.

So on Sync, you can click on posts, but they never show as read. It’s super annoying, so I went back to Voyager.

I used to use RiF and loved Sync for Lemmy too. I just wish the developer would fix the bug for posts showing unread! It’s completely stopped me from using the app for something like 6 months now.

There are a few minor cultural differences to be aware of. But as long as you avoid saying anything negative about Star Trek or Linux, you should be just fine.

Also how did they let that excuse get past the technical teams who should be implementing this? They added Star Link to the data center that supports the White House and then have traffic run through hard wires. This does absolutely nothing to improve spots with bad WiFi.

What reckless journalism. It would be much more accurate to say “an allegedly AI-generated Musk getting his feet sucked by Trump”.

I’ve seen no concrete proof that the video is not authentic. It’s with in the realm of possibility that Elon has two left feet.

I downloaded Sync the first day he released it. It had a few bugs, but he was very active at the time and seemed to clean them up quickly. I made a post in his community about a problem with comment sorting and he resolved it the very next day!

So yeah, I glady paid for what I thought was a pretty good app (still is without the unread issue). Since then I’ve gone back to Voyager, which is ok but still has some quirks that make me miss Sync. Might give Thunder a shot.

It happens when your home instance upgrades to a newer version of Lemmy that changed how one of the variables worked to track read posts. I’m guessing lemme.ee hasn’t upgraded yet? Sh.itjust.works upgraded something like 6 months ago and it’s been unusable ever since. I suppose I could make an account on another instance, but that’s a pain.

It was pretty common for him to disappear for a while and then pop up with a whole bunch of new features. I didn’t mind that before and gladly paid the $1.50/month subscription to support his work and make Lemmy more accessible. But yeah, can’t justify it now that the app shows all links as unread.

I wish that was the case. @ljdawson@lemmy.world - the Sync dev - has been MIA for over half a year now. Which sucks, because Sync currently has a breaking bug causing it to not show posts as read, making it mostly unusable. I had to cancel my subscription for it that I was happily paying for before to support his work.

Oddly enough, on my first development project I was paired with a “senior dev” who turned out just to be a guy in his 60s who had never actually coded before, so… just a senior.

I ended up doing 100% of the coding, but the guy managed to keep his job for a few months.

Honestly, if my PM never pestered me about the status of my tickets, I would never close them. Some of us need the pestering!

Yeah I regularly spend hours here every day with no lack of content. For example, did you see the guy with the thermal camera a couple days ago? Facisinating.

I had a management class years ago in college where the professor made the argument that in order to be ethical, every single action a business makes must be done to increase profits for its shareholders.

Charitable donation? Only if it increases public perception in a way to be justified by the cost.

Pay your employees well? Only if paying them less would cause you to lose them to your competitors.

The list goes on. It’s a very depressing way to look at the world. But as time goes by, I’ve realized just how accurate that professor was. Companies don’t give a shit about you and will turn on you the second it makes their quarterly numbers look better.

I don’t understand why they’d make this a separate app and not a configurable setting in Messages.
