I think open discovery algorithms are the way. We are against algos but sorting by like similarity would be beneficial.
What are you guys thinking? @dessalines@lemmy.ml @nutomic@lemmy.ml Are you optimistic about this or fuck any algorithms?
I’m a male, 25 yo software developer. Admin of lemy.lol instance.

TBH Toastify is not that awesome.
Nope. lemy.lol. With only one l

I’m glad you added lemmy.ml 🙏 Yes, you just need to create a bot account and add it. Communities are added/updated periodically.
It was something like Universal Lemmy Redirect
Due to unpleasant experiences, not the first day :)
Thanks for the changes 🙏 I wonder, is 0.19.8 going to be last 0.19 before 0.20? I’m planning to upgrade if its stable enough.
As I understand, it will make things work like Bluesky. Users will be able to use their own domain handles while not hosting an instance as a whole.
If you seed only, then your bot won’t subscribe. So your All tab will be the same.
Mutual mode can put an additional load on your instance if you are not following the top communities on Lemmy. But I believe it is worth it.
If the extra load becomes a problem, you can disable the bot at any time. With the “Reset subscriptions” button, your bot will unfollow from all communities.
I would suggest you to set Federation mode to seed only. I do not recommend mutual mode for instances under 100 users.
NSFW? Your preference. Auto add? I think you should enable. Fediseer? Default is fine.
Ok. I want to host my own Bluesky and interact with the bsky.app instance. How?
The article is all about excuses.
I agree that fediverse needs a personalized “explore” page in general. For example, this is the only plus feature of Bluesky over Mastodon (in terms of technology). It is obvious how big difference it makes.
I generally avoid the evil algorithms found on other social networks, but I hope we see that in Lemmy.
So is he self hosting her or what?
I got the email too but can’t install from TestFlight.
If apps are native, I think it makes sense. No one watches short videos from PC.
I will. I was asking from CPU power and price perspective though.
When I decided to try XMPP, I had to do a lot of research to decide which applications I should use for the server and client. I did not experience this in Matrix. And yes, I know Matrix is not stable. I am not against that. It’s just easier to get on board.
If we told two people to use these two software independently, they would start using Matrix much more faster than XMPP. I think this is enough to call it uncomplicated.
Also, would you recommend Snikket server (or Prosody) for 1:1, group calls and screen sharing?
I don’t want to defend Matrix. I agree that it is not stable and lightweight. However, I believe it is simpler than XMPP. Wanna set up a server? Synapse. Need a client? Element. The default softwares are easy for new users to discover.
Also, the fact that Matrix has a single protocol means that in theory all servers and clients can work with each other (Although I know we are far from that at the moment). It is much better than XMPP’s XEPs in terms of simplicity.
It’s not that I don’t like XMPP. I want a stable, encrypted, federated messaging platform. However, in terms of money and motivation, Matrix seems to be closer to that right now.
My instance has 82GB of DB size. It is almost two years old. I think you’re overestimating.
