The great thing about it is that now you are helping to generate a new crop of kids who will learn how to use Linux. Sure, they will try to do stupid things on it like install games or figure out how to bypass things or install or uninstall … the great thing about that is that they will learn how to use the system in order to try to break it. It’s the same way I learned how to use Linux and probably the same way you learned how to use it.

That’s one of the great things about switching to Linux … it forces you to learn something new and for kids that is a very good thing.

All those kids in the school that OP described were getting stagnant in a settled environment of living in Windows … now that they have Linux in front of them, they will go on to learn how to subvert the system under Linux. It’s not a bad thing in my opinion, it will create a whole crop of kids who now know how to fool around with Windows AND Linux.

I wish someone would have introduced me to Linux when I was kid.

All of the biggest ones … no corporation should be allowed to amass so much wealth that they could literally control entire countries or regions of the world. The fact that this level of power and control exists means we value money and capital over human life or even more terribly the value of millions of human lives.

I’m Indigenous Canadian and my dad was born in the wilderness in a very traditional lifestyle in northern Ontario. His first and only language was Ojibway/Cree, he understood English but seldom spoke it as he preferred his our language only.

As a teen in the 90s I loved watched TNG and I watched it as often as I could whenever I could. I never stuck to a schedule and we only had the most basic satellite TV package we could afford at the time. I was so engrossed and loved the show so much that my dad at one point asked me … ‘It’s amazing that people are up there now that are doing all those things’

I had to explain to him that it was all just as show that was fake and that none of it was real.

To me … this is my favourite TNG moment … that the show was so convincing and well performed that it made my dad believe that it was real.

To be fair, my dad was probably the most intelligent person I’ve ever known and an excellent teacher. In his prime, he often just walked into the wilderness with nothing but a knife in the fall and came back midwinter with a stack of furs to trade and make money and then head back out again with very little to survive on. He just wasn’t that aware of what the outside world was all about.

Instead of mass migration, they should just institute small changes to small sections or areas or groups … just slowly erode the windows userbase over a period of about four or five or even ten years. Newspapers, magazines, TV, film, movies, broadcasts are all regulated nationally and internationally

The same should be done for corporate social media companies who basically deliver all or most news content and information to people everywhere today.

The current state of the world is like being in the 1900s and only having six major newspapers in the world owned by big corporations and none of the content they publish or share is regulated or controlled.

Democracy and the power of people don’t seem to do much to oligarchs

But money and wealth and the ability to win or lose great fortune is the only thing that brings them down.

The fact that you are there and aware of what is happening to your country is hope for change. I always sound doom and gloom in my posts but I’m also hopeful for the change. I’m Indigenous Canadian and my entire life has always felt like failure in everything me and my family has been exposed to for generations. The greatest thing I learned from all of it is to never give up … even in the face of overwhelming odds.
