  • I’d add another difference: way more idiots. Back in the day, that idea that everything on the internet needed to be taken with a grain of salt was incredibly widespread. It was one of the bedrocks of internet culture, and it’d get memed to death.

Now, the number of people who view everything on the internet as gospel truth has surpassed the number of healthy skeptics.

  • Just accept that it’s wiggy at first. You’re being dragged along on a very high level heist with experienced professionals in their field, and your primary pov is a drug-addled hacker who struggles to differentiate meatspace from cyberspace. They’re not going to stop and explain anything, but you’ll understand the vibes.

If you’re still hot for it afterwards, give it another read. A lot more makes sense once you have an understanding of the bigger picture.

  • The problem is that to argue this point, you have to start going through all of the facts like case conversion rates, the domestic abuse rates, the rates of racist attacks by law enforcement, and the membership overlap between law enforcement and white supremacist groups. Once you start bringing up that many numbers, the idiots get confused and their eyes roll out of their skull, whereas the centrists get too scared realizing that basically no cop is actually trying to keep the U.S. safe and try to shutdown the conversation.

  • Yeah, except China has been committing a genocide and would gladly commit an atrocity on the scale of Israel x Palestine to Taiwan if the U.S. blinks.

Yes, the U.S. is evil as hell, and yet China is still worse. The U.S. doesn’t have citizen reeducation camps, people don’t get disappeared for talking out against dear leader. If you can’t understand why giving an adversary like that unfettered access to people’s minds is a security risk, I’ve no interest in arguing geopolitics with you.
