I have to use 11 at work. In a way I’m thankful because I’ve been exposed to how shit it is and it makes me appreciate Linux more. I can’t see them changing anytime soon as it seems like we’re getting more dependent on their shit.

I’ve kept my streak alive of finishing at least one video game a month (started Nov 23)
I’ve got a family member interested in switching to Linux but the finance software is an obstacle. I had a look and landed on gnucash which I thought I would trial myself and then see if if would work for them. I like it!
Love sports. All the sports I watch are currently on the one service. Occasionally I’ll go to a game but prefer the lounge room stadium.
I’ve moved workplace in the last few years and having sport to talk about made it so much easier socially.
I do wish the gambling ads would fuck right off though.
I have my old 10 install and my Mint install on different drives. I just unplug the one I don’t want and swap them physically to change.
It was a great point of friction when I switched to Linux because booting Windows meant actual physical action which acted as a deterrent.

Seconding this because I have had that issue. Switched over to an AMD card and life was good.
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. The state government of Queensland, Australia just lifted a 12 year ban on IBM getting government contracts after a colossal fuck up.

Dsub is great but looks slightly dated. Tempo might be what you’re looking for.
Australia had a mass shooting in 1996 and pretty strict gun control came in. Now it’s only really sport shooters (who are a pretty responsible bunch from my experience), rural property owners with a good reason (pest control largely), certain occupations like specific security (cash transport for instance), cops and military that have guns. And criminals.
We still get the odd shooting but they’re pretty rare and to my understanding, almost never done by legal owners.
I’m not sure what things were like back in 1996 but I don’t believe we really have the gun culture so there’s not much opposition to gun control by the majority.
Playing Ghost of Yotei at the moment and absolutely loving it. Tsushima was an all timer for me so I’m happy for more.

Show her some pictures or videos of DEs and see what she likes. If she’s someone who likes to make it look the way she wants, she might get a bit more out of KDE than Cinnamon for example.

Ah that makes sense. Thanks.

Why is that? (Genuine curiosity)
Tried dual booting Ubuntu and XP back around 2006, didn’t really see the point because gaming on Windows.
2020 got a Raspberry Pi and set up Retropie which gave me a good intro to Linux. Tried to get away from big tech in 2021 and was dual booting Mint and Windows 10. Ended up spending more time in 10 because gaming.
Got an old laptop from work and it was perfect to throw Mint on because no way it was going to handle gaming. Then I set up a media server, initially with the the Pi and then bought a cheap mini for it - and ran it on Mint. I’m primarily a console gamer now so gaming is far less of a concern for me on PC. Mint everything now.
I could distro hop or at least try something else, and maybe I will at some stage. But I’m too happy with Mint/Cinnamon to bother.
Yeah that’s my bad. You are literally correct. I was meaning more figuratively and going with MP3 as a general term rather than the format specifically.
I guess it’s no different to a CD really. Just a smaller file on a bigger storage medium.
An Evangelion AMV set to I’m Not Okay (I Promise) by My Chemical Romance. It was on YouTube and uploaded by a channel Ahhh123the8ball. But taken down for music reasons. Many years ago.

You might get lucky just using the browser.
But unless you’re using pihole or some sort of DNS based ad blocking you will likely get smashed with ads.

Stickerbrush Symphony from Donkey Kong Country 2
I burnt a Windows 7 install disc about a month ago. A guy I work with found his old PC and wanted a fresh install so he could give it to someone.
I discovered Ventoy about a week ago…
