It’s a tool that helps ‘trace’ a raster image into vector shapes and paths
it’s useful for creating vector artwork from raster images - sometimes a logo or icon is only available in a poor resolution raster image, and so having an easy way to convert it into vector saves a ton of time.
I used it yesterday to create an SVG file for CNC plotting of a company logo. It would have taken me a few hours to hand-trace it myself
Just a small thing, but as of the latest release Inkscape has a functioning live-trace tool
It was one of the biggest things keeping me using illustrator but I used inkscape’s trace yesterday and it worked great
Seems relatively painless to chop those two instances off - chinese.lol has less than 200 users, and I can’t even find instance info for doesnotexist.club (coincidence? i think NOT).
I do personally wonder how difficult it is to spin up new instances though. How much effort would it be for them to create a new one and do it again?
I’m actually most concerned with the IP leaking of the fediverse chick posts - hopefully some progress has been made with the IP leaking in auto-loaded external media through DM’s
As enraging as this whole story is, I don’t think there’s any coming back from ‘you’re a war profiteer’
And I would hope those websites are extremely low-risk and not anywhere near essential infrastructure or data ;)
I’m not sure who needs to hear this, but unless you work as a security engineer or in another security-focused tech field, you really shouldn’t be exposing your homelab to the open internet anyway
Most people access their homelabs via VPN - i don’t see anything here that’s a problem for that use-case.

When I was on reddit, it seemed to matter so much how old your account was on any given subreddit, but now i realize it’s extraordinarily bad opsec to have a single account.
All this to say: there being a single point of authority that can issue IP bans and shadowblocks and generally have control over user identity information is just so needlessly stupid.

“Vibe Coding” is not a term I wanted to know or understand today, but here we are.
There are not enough smart-vacuum owners in the world that would make it more profitable to just make the hardware without hoovering up the data that comes with its use.
Better to put my efforts toward automating the flipping of light switches and the raising/lowering of window shades
And some brands of 3D printers have started placing those functionalities behind remote servers and paywalls

There are a million third party vendors that sell replacements on amazon, just take a look. Though - and I don’t know for sure having not actually read the article - it seems as though you may also need to change out the firmware so you can keep operating it if iRobot’s servers go down, since all the roombas i’m aware of need internet connectivity to operate.
If you’re at the point where you need to start replacing parts, it might be worth starting to look into other brands

Welp, I guess that pen plotter I built last year is going to be my full time printer
I don’t use it regularly enough to weigh in comprehensively- I use it mostly for processing svg drawings created in other programs for cnc plotting, or for compiling svg drawings onto standardized layouts for sending to a printer
My only complaint with inkscape is that it’s a bit slow with rendering complex shapes/canvases with many points, but otherwise it does everything I need from a vector program.
