Yes, besides living in a rural area with a shitty library that has only books online I read in middle school, I have agorophobia. So making the trek there isn’t that simple.

Even the biggest university library’s online books are not up to date. They take years to get translated, so instead of waiting for that (since I’m not sure whether I’ll even be alive by then) I just read books in their original language as soon as they come out.

And stop making fun of disabled people.

I’m an avid reader. Books from authors I like here tend to take months to years to get translated and into a library. I read everything in English now because of that.

Just one point of view: I’m too poor to even buy food, but pirating books keeps me informed about current affairs and shit. It also enables me to stay alive because I still have access to my favourite authors, which makes me so happy and try to stay alive for one more release date.

Full disclosure: I’ve gone from a very good job to debilitating disability over 10 years in Europe. Also, before this, I bought hardback books of everything I liked. I’ll do this again as soon as I can afford it. I’ll always support authors as much as I can.

Also Belgium. The only time I had a gun was when I joined the Police for a few years. After that, nope. In my 5 years, I’ve never even had the thought that I should pull out my gun. I’ve served in Brussels and rural areas.

It was just emphasized so much during our 12 months of training to ‘never ever use it unless it’s your last resort, only pull out your gun when you’re ready to pull the trigger’ that it simply didn’t cross my mind. We were more trained with the stick thing, ‘job?’ and judo, hand to hand combat.

Also, as a civilian you have to take an exam to own a firearm. If you have mental health problems or a record of criminal behaviour forget it. Even if you do get a license, you can only use it in a shooting range and specific situations. And never transport your gun and ammo together.

If you have a burglar, even then you’re only allowed to use appropriate force. If he has a knife, you’re not allowed to shoot him.

There is a site with all the RSS feeds from major news outlets. If you download the app Feeder you can add them and have an overall view. Problem is, there are more newspapers that don’t support RSS anymore and it’s a shame.

It’s hit and miss most of the time. I just tried Lemmy memes and it redirects to lemmy.ml and the memes community.

Then I tried Lemmy how do I wash my kitten and there was an answer. Again for Lemmy ml. I think it depends on whether there is a post answering the question and if people commented on it.

I use duckduckgo and lately have been adding Lemmy at the beginning (like I did Reddit) and it really works. Search results come back if there is a discussion going on about the topic.

The bastards are so used to treats, it barely works anymore :). But dreamies has a new line out with catnip flavour they die for. I’ve been giving them very few of them, so that can help.

I tried walking my cat, it did work but the problem was other people walking their dogs and letting them loose in parks. So I stopped going since it terrified him. I tried keeping him in his carrier backpack like thingy, but he still didn’t enjoy it.

Now I have a tuxedo devil kitten, maybe I’ll try it again. Just have to think hard about how and where he can be safe. Maybe just start with his carrier and then move on to the leash?
