  • Unfortunately the “horror” that is windows persists almost as much as the horror of Linux. Which is a bunch of fanbois crowing about their distro without any explanation at all. But why do they do this? Because that’s how they got into it, and that’s how the people that got them into it got into it.

Which fucking distro should I use?
    - Well, really it’s just preference.

    Then I choose arch.
    - Uh, wrong try again lol.

Fair enough, Which fucking distro should I use?
    - Well, really it’s whatever works for you.

Okay, I didn’t like the feel of that one.
    - Well, you were using the wrong desktop environment.

😐😑😤😠… …Which fucking desktop environment should I use?
    - Well, really it’s just preference.

    🤬. 🤬🤬, 🤬. 🤬.
    - Look clearly you don’t know what you’re doing just use Ubuntu, or Kubuntu, or Lubuntu, or Xubuntu, or Fubuntu, or Poobuntu, or Schmubuntu. And with cinnamon obvi.

Well how do I know? The site for each one uses the exact same bloviated claims. They’re all feature rich, and lightweight, and extended support, etc. Do I have to install them all to find out?
    - Yes but that’s impossible. So just use mine, it works.

Until it doesn’t. Then you need to hit up Linux self help forums, to get help from Linux bros, who are the most detestable group of unhelpful, impatient, and pretentious neckbeards imaginable. “Did you try searching first?” “Just use our discord!” “Just use [my fucking distro!]”

    😖🤯👺

  • This is depression. Right now, it is no one’s job to worry about your effectiveness in performance and absolutely not to pass judgement on yourself for those considerations. It is your job to work with your therapist, heal, and self empathize. Try to remember that depression is not something you have but something you lack. Depression usually presents as a lack of motivation. So, focus on you and fuck anyone EVERYONE who says otherwise. If it needs to then productivity will come. And if not, who cares?! You do you cuz!

  • Lamps were “total disasters” until they weren’t. Crosswalks even. Toilets in Seattle.

There are lots of things that were “total disasters” at one point but were developed into safe reliable things. That’s not a reason to abandon an endeavor entirely, but a great reason to redirect or refine it.

Also, headlines are not news, and most non-electrical engineers, let alone journalists, know jack fucking shit about electrical engineering. EEVBlog did a great few videos about solar roadways and their flaws.

  • I know links are difficult, but if you just place your cursor over that underlined portion of the text and press the left button on the mouse, it will transport you to an entirely different site with relevant information that you can debate yourself over.

Also, assuming I was a lawyer, why would I try to prove that in any meaningful way? Do you not understand the concept of IANAL? Also, no such thing as a “law license” in the US. Also also, clarifying the first three sentences of a very basic wikipedia page is hardly “advice”.

All SCOTUS did was confirm that a precedent set before Nixon still stands. This was confirmed once again by the courts during B Clintons terms. But confirming it yet again, for the third time since being set, is suddenly an affront to justice? They basically repeated themselves a third time. Then they kicked it back for the court to determine whether or not the act was official or not. Click a fucking link. Read a fucking book.

Or stay basic. IDGAS. You right now are no different in any way than trumpers who claim that trump’s convictions were a show trial and that no one was injured by his acts. Bury your head in the sand and pretend to be incensed. Or, don’t be afraid to have a little integrity. You’ll get downvoted for posting something unpopular, and you’ll have to deal with the occasional twat that’s too lazy to check their facts. But I suppose that’s the point of integrity. Doing the right thing with no expectation of reward. But the hubris of rubes can be its own reward. So thanks for that. 🙏

  • You still haven’t answered my question

And I’m not going to. It has nothing to do with the point that I was making. It has nothing to do with the quip that I started with. I came neither here nor to you to get advice. I made a sarcastic comment that you literally just confirmed. Thank you.

And the consolidation and gatekeeping of resources to the few seems just a tad antithetical to the entire foundation of decentralization.

    From join-lemmy.org:

    self hostable, easy to deploy

“people” are telling me that this isn’t easy, but Lemmy seems to think it is. Good luck arguing your way out of that paper bag.

  • Look, I hear what you’re saying. And no offense intended, but people like you crow about things like fediverse not being supported… All the while, these applications are not supported by their own developers. And unfortunately, not unlike the majority of my experiences with Linux issues, every time I reach out for help I’m told the same old hat story, “this isn’t meant for beginners”.

And the “pains that come with learning about self-hosting” are so unnecessary and in my opinion quite apparently avoidable.

"Well, did you change the port number to this number that isn’t referenced anywhere in the documentation? It’s pretty obvious to anyone that’s been doing this for 20 years - who would be able to recognize that it’s a step everyone would need to do to deploy - so there’s literally no conceivable reason why that would be included…

    ###IN THE TUTORIAL

…Maybe you shouldn’t be doing this."

  • Well, as someone who has been trying to launch a functioning Lemmy instance for nearly a year now, I can tell you, knowing not the slightest thing about funkwhale, that I would eat my hat if the documentation isn’t an all but absent shit show.

My favorite part was learning that my domain was creating a completely new cert from lets encrypt with each deployment and no way of recovering them at all. So after 5 attempts, you have to wait 60 days (or whatever) for them to expire. That was awesome. I messaged the devs about that one and they literally said “we didn’t think of that”… 😑

And so much shit goes tits up if you don’t deploy it perfectly the very first time. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fediverse, but JTFC I hate the fucking fediverse.
