any of the tens (hundreds?) of alternative servers that offer literally exactly the same thing.
Awesome Lemmy Instances shows nearly 500 and its outdated.
Some people pay a lot of attention to what instances people are from. I think I’ve had someone who jumped to negative assumptions about me because of what instance I’m using and I think I might have seen like one person from this instance - I pretty much never see people using the same instance, so its weird imagining someone seeing it enough to have an assumption about the users.
There are some servers that are a bit more tight-knit (hexbear comes to mind).
Is that subreddit just kept around as a honeypot?
As long as they can convince advertisers that the enough of the activity is real or enough of the manipulation of public opinion via bots is in facebook’s interest, bots aren’t a problem at all in the short-term.
After replying to this, I got that message for a second time except its missing the stumblechat link.
Given the bot is using a single message for everyone, it could have been written by an actual human.
Only time I have the problem is when people attach large files. While is the same problem with other “IM” methods.
Agreed most others wouldn’t use email as a replacement for casual chat, but its always seemed like an arbitrary choice. So many people waste so much space in emails because they treat them like letters, so the biggest difference seems to be the culture around them rather than the medium itself. If people formatted all text messages as
"Hello Dear Friend,
Here is stuff to waste space.
Here’s what I actually want to say.
More extra stuff.
Sincerely, Walrus"
I doubt we would see that much of a difference between them.
How so? Seems like just a slightly different UI for the same thing to me?
Feel like Matrix or Email would have made more sense as a federated service for communication, but get Signal is a lot more well known.
We beat fascism or something?
That is the implication. That you should find local fascists and beat them.
What do people’s genitals have to do this this?
How is being trans sexual? Even if its using a slur to refer to them…
I’d like to be able to run my 3 4K monitors without compression via a single port and still have the option for one to be high refreshrate. Things like spreadsheets benefit far more from the increased resolutions than shows anyways, imo.
My favorite reposts were the ones that were only like 6 months later, so they’re talking about christmas or r/place as if its that time of year when its the total opposite.
The IRS says you have to report illegal income and pay taxes on them.
When I was making that kind of money, I still saved way more than 5%. Granted, after inflation, it is like $11.50 now. Still, 10% would have been pretty easy. 20% would be possible if I didn’t blow money on things like spend $3K on a bike for hobby use. Also, that’s assuming you don’t have unexpected expenses. I lived somewhere where having a car wasn’t necessary, so that made a huge different in budgeting. And when I needed surgery, I was lucky with insurance. Otherwise, that could have easily have eaten up the savings I had.
So 15% is definitely possible… with lots of luck and good circumstances.
People with money usually don’t keep it as plain money though. On average, if you just invest it in S&P500 (assuming historical returns), it’ll be worth at least 4 million after adjusting for inflation after 30 years. 3 million dollars reward for having 1 million dollars. But even if you’re like a gold-standard fanatic and just put it in gold, the same applies.
The lack of groups was the deal breaker for me, so after it rolled out to beta, I finally switched back to Firefox as my primary browser.
Last I tried, I don’t think you could reorder or drag/drop groups and selecting multiple tabs doesn’t result in “group tabs” in the context menu, but it is still decent enough.
