Ok cool. But I was replying to the comment regarding Microsoft forcing new computers on people. So no need for the correction.

I wish that were the case. But I doubt most people will ditch Windows. They’ll just pony up for a new computer. They’ll certainly lose some users. But Windows will still remain as top dog, most likely. And I doubt that’ll ever change so long as traditional desktop computers and laptops still exist.
I’ve been on Arch for a little while now, and Kubuntu before that. After Valve launched Proton on Steam, I found myself almost never booting into Windows. Once I ran out of disk space, it was an easy decision to completely purge Windows from my machine. Haven’t looked back in years.
Fuck Microsoft for trying to control my computer. Finally nice not having it reinstall Candy Crush after every update. And none of that copilot or online account bullshit.
I have literally never thought to try that. 😂 Thanks for sharing this! Next time I’m struggling, I’ll give it a try.
I was just being sarcastic. I am WELL aware that wells exist. Also my city water isn’t really all that expensive. Certainly much cheaper than buying bottled water on the daily.
Free water? Where do you live? Here I have to pay for that. 🤣
They are pretty similar. Plex is more polished though. But what keeps me from using Plex is that the client likes to push content onto me that isn’t on my server. I can unpin those suggestions, but they always came back after some time, which annoyed me. I also don’t like how they handle account authorization. I shouldn’t have to use their servers to log into my own server.
Jellyfin doesn’t phone home ever, and it only ever shows my content.
All that being said, if none of that bothers you, Plex is still a really good media server.
Jellyfin combined with Radarr and Sonarr is freaking amazing. Add in Jellyseerr and you’ve got yourself a Netflix competitor in your own home.
Some people really want lemmy, or the fediverse for that matter, to be reddit. And that’s not a bad thing of its own. But maybe we can let it be what it wants to be.
Personally, I’m fine with Lemmy not completely replacing Reddit, but rather just being a viable alternative for those of us who are tired of Reddit. I’ve only been using Lemmy for a handful of days and I’m already quite happy with it as it is.
It’s fine to not like someone. There’s plenty of people in the world that I’m not a huge fan of. But I’d never advocate for or celebrate their deaths.
I’m also struggling to understand what her being “fully vaxxed” has to do with lung cancer… 🤦🏻
Anyway, rest in peace Susan Wojcicki.
Thank you! Another reason why I like it here so far is that every interaction with people has been positive. Greatly appreciated!
Remove content they don’t like while pushing content in my face that I don’t want to see.
Between the constant ads and politically divisive subreddit recommendations that plague my Reddit experience, Lemmy feels like a breath of fresh air. I actually see the stuff I want to see, and am not having garbage pushed onto me.
Odd. I’ve been torrenting with them for years at this rate. Even have my media server up 24/7 with qBittorrent running. I guess I’ll have to find an alternative in case this winds up happening to me.
