One piece of advice as a freebie: Don’t judge yourself too hard if an honest and genuine comment you make now-and-then gets downvoted. Often times the best thing to do is just to move on. You can try to reach a mutual understanding through conversation, but recognize the signs when a back-and-forth isn’t leading anywhere productive and simply back off.

I had very recently come across a reactionary content left-wing YouTube channel, reacting to Rachel Maddow of MSNBC reacting to Elon Musk’s interview… I thought that was pretty bizarre. (link).

It was a 30 second intro segment, then a 8 minute clip of the Maddow show, followed by a 1 minute outro commentary segment.

Reddit… Let’s not go there, 'tis a silly place.

The commenters on average feel more real on Lemmy, so i’ve been here 2 years plus and hardly needed to look back.

It’s kind of funny how this blog post seems to use the same exact slop-ass language the post it’s complaining about does. Well and truly dead and barren, most of the internet is.

It’s like 4chan-anons recounting things and only being able to do it coherently in a greentext style.

I try to catch myself being too antagonistic or soapbox-y even on Lemmy. I hope we can keep this place interesting enough to discuss stuff on. If bots can somehow emulate really respectful but concise, intriguing and fact-based discussion then, this might be an unpopular opinion but I don’t see that as too much of a problem. It’s that bots have copied overused comment chains and only seem to be product shills or propagandists wrecking the space.

Trump and Lutnick will be turning the American economy into a Lootbox/Skinner Box economy… let the FOMO purchasing flow through you, buy buy buy before the tariffs go on again!

Who knows, they might be weighing their options and might shift the delivery hub to BC which would take time, delaying pre-order operations. It might be worth for some hoser to tie a bow on the box for Nintendo and send it to the US for lower tariffs.

It’s a lie because more accurately it would be “housing-deprived”. We have ample empty dwelling but billionaires like Musk have purposely held them away from people because they are more valuable as places to hold money than as places for people to live.

That and also the US is purposely being denied proper healthcare supports by the same wealthy elite that Musk is part of.

Senators (in the US) are elected representatives of their state. Sen. Booker, through his 25 hour speech, brought his constituents’ message to the forefront, criticized the Senate, Democrats’ and his own failures to act. He got millions of people to look at Senate business as if he was a professional streamer which is usually boring stuff. The speech is Booker’s answer to “what can I do at this moment to make a difference?”, which hopefully will get others to ask the same of themselves.

It’s impossible to measure the true impact of the speech afterward, but it’s intended to inspire people to take action, resist the Trump monarchy, and cause “good trouble” where they can. Who knows whether this has had any influence on the Wisconsin Supreme Court which was a humiliation to Musk, or if it had any influence on the 4 Republican Senators joining Democrats to pass a resolution nullifying the false emergency against Canada?

Markets will still consider it a win if Trump does not else good in the next 4 years except for extend the “tax cuts and jobs” billionaire and corporate handouts. He seems to be failing at that and DOGE has only made it harder in for Congress (in a budgetary sense) for them to do it.

The immediate effect is that Senate business has been delayed by an entire day. From within the Senate as well, if there’s ever going to be a tone shift with Republicans in Congress wrestling back control from the President, it would be now, looking at how Trump declared a emergency against a trade deficit today.

Like I said already, the most significant benefits of this speech will come by Senators and Americans at-large following through, if that can happen. Your line of questioning is like watering a seed and wondering where the fruit is right away.

A WI supreme court Musk defeat, millions of views who have heard of “good trouble” and the whole plan to cut services to fund billionaire tax cuts, increased turnout for Apr 5 protests (50501), a 500pt Lemmy thread, so on and so forth. The action is a seed that would bear fruit if Americans and others actually care for it, be part of the solution and not act all nihilist.

We’re doing our part in Canada. We are out protesting, boycotting Tesla, boycotting many other American goods and not travelling to the US. Time to do yours, and not use your ineffectual Senate as an excuse for inaction. Call your Dem and Repub senators, and even if they don’t listen, then take to the streets, see eye-to-eye with your fellow statesman and make change happen. This is a moment that Americans have to seize upon, not just for the 40-odd old geezers in the Dem Senate Caucus to do.

I already said downthread that it was a record-breaking performance. It got eyeballs on an important message in the same way as what Sanders and AOC are doing in their tour around their country.

Dem Senators’ performance has been a big pile of disappointment during 2025 so far, hence I’m calling this a first sign of resistance because we have had essentially nothing noteworthy prior to that and in the chamber since Sanders’ organizing efforts are outside of that, while his and other Senators’ efforts to bring bills forward and grill Trump appointees have seemed ineffectual, and Schumer led a big letdown with the CR bill.

It’s not everything we need, it’s not enough on its own, but it’s not nothing either. I don’t know how many people I have to say this to.
