True, and thanks.
Ah, I see. Yeah, I keep forgetting that a lot of people use LinkedIn for job-searching (I mean, I kinda do too, but been active on it like 7 years without a single follow-through). I see it as a networking tool. Job-searching may be part of it, but business leaders and ultra wealthy use it to make connections and support each other (theoretically). Businesses/creators would be the target market. Maybe some job-search aspect to it at some point.
Haha, this is true. Hence why I was looking for a way to serve people.
Yeah, that’s why I was kinda wondering.
Yeah, that’s what I was hoping for. I’m a believer that money = value. If something or someone is valuable, it should be paid for and there’s nothing wrong with that.
I’m also a believer that you can operate in FOSS/Fedi-mode and still make money.
Yup, an instance would be paid, but if someone wanted to launch a service of their own they totally could…they just won’t have the upstream features and the primary support from the paid instance.
Job-seeker/employer is only a drop in the ocean of what professional networking (and LinkedIn) is about. It’s a community of businesses that all help each other collaborate and build…a way to share ideas and make new connections…at least, I think that’s what everyone wants it to be.
Nope, no verification system…complete opposite…you’d just need to pay an I don’t care who you are (I’d even take crypto like Monero). I think being on week 4 of wrestling with LinkedIn’s verification system (being in LI jail for the 3rd time!) has made me sick of it.
One thing I like about the fediverse is it’s very community-driven. If I come across a spam message on Mastodon, I’ll start to report it to the community but find 10 others who are saying the same thing and within 5 minutes the dude is out. Meanwhile LinkedIn has a draconian verification system that treats its users like toddlers, while every other week I have someone asking to take over my UpWork account (and LI doesn’t ban them).
Was it ever for jobs?
Been an active user for well over 5 years and not one interaction has resulted in a job.
A bunch of people acting like they were hiring, sure.
This was really good. My only (very small) gripe was that the acting was stilted. Other than that, it was absolutely enjoyable.
Looks like the consensus is…yes, give it another go (though a few warned that, yeah, it may not be all people promise).
Alright, once I can afford it and things stabilize I think I will. Thanks for the input!
Thank you for your honesty. 😆 I kinda had that reaction recently when I saw free Andromeda episodes on YouTube. Checked one out to see if it’s as good as I remembered and…hardly. 🤣
Oh, no, it’s not that. I mean, the special effects definitely didn’t age well, but I focus on the story, the suspense. I’m someone who can easily get wrapped up into what the characters are thinking/feeling/etc. With the right director, writer, and crew at the helm, you can have a sci fi show with two people in a room having an intense political discussion and have it be good.
Oh, yeah, for sure. And no, worries, I’m not discounting world building. I realize that most shows these days have a world building phase where not a lot happens. But in the end the world building should lead to something exciting. I tried to turn my mom onto the Expanse (one of my all-time favorite shows) but she said she gave it a go but couldn’t get interested. 😅
In the novel I’m writing this occurs. Someone from 2004 is transported to a planet in the year 240,000. She learns the language, but she can’t quite get the dialect down because humans have evolved different facial/vocal muscles by this point.
Obviously it’s in writing so I can get away with not having to explicitly define the accent. 😅
They basically want more data points on people to sell to advertisers.
It’s big tech. That’s how big tech works.
Probably gonna anger both sides here, but I see both private insurance and single-payer healthcare as equally-evil scams. Why not focus on driving down costs of healthcare (i.e. EVERYTHING) so that you throw a couple bucks at the receptionist to cover your surgery then check to see if you have enough for a post-surgery soda?
OK; that’s starting to make sense. Thanks.
Yup, reddit never cared about the user. They’re not a nonprofit. They’re a business. So this wasn’t a surprise to me.
IME one of my all-time favorite shows. While, yeah, there were some questionable artistic choices sometimes (let’s face it…every show has 'em) all around the show creators seemed to know their audience was intelligent and could handle a complex political drama. I never felt like the plot was spoon-fed to me. All the characters had depth, which allowed for rich interpersonal conflicts to drive the plot.
I also like how they weren’t afraid to go dark, to add twists that were so gut-wretchingly tragic you didn’t know how they’d go on.
But, of course, I also loved how BSG was mainly a mirror about us…from the birds-eye view, the Cylons were a lot more ethical and moral than humans.
A show way ahead of its time. TBF I think it would be way ahead of its time if it was released today, too. Haha.
