I was just curious if there is a period of time that passes before their system basically purges “banned” IP’s. They can’t possibly have specific IP’s that are forever banned

THIS is a key point that most don’t understand. There are some auto mod filters that will automatically block your post or comment, but it doesn’t result in a ban. Site wide bans happen because of “reports” which draws the attention of Admins
Look out for the reddit “kill” cookie that will linger in your browser
You are correct about “pre-emptive obedience.” Reddit’s auto mod removes many more posts now automatically. If you go to the moderator queue it will show all “removed” posts and comments. It will tell you what rule/s were violated. Sometimes it even suggests that you ban the user from your group. You can over rule the “removal” but if you do you risk reddit just banning the whole group mods and all.
Well yes VPN is used many times to evade bans. I went for over a year with a new account using a VPN. Then one day I forgot to turn it on. Next morning this new account that I created and that worked for over a year was banned.
It seems that Admins do reviews of temp bans if you violate the most watched stuff you will be perm banned. The top reasons to get banned are violence, anything trans related that contradicts the reddit view of trans stuff, or incivility. Like name calling. Example would be you make a comment to OP or another user - “well you’re a fucking asshole”.
Come on, what’s not to understand about no violence. It doesn’t matter what the situation is. Could be factual or hypothetical you can’t endorse, call for, or even comment on any act of violence. The lucky ones get a temp ban. Most are simply permanently banned site wide
He was going to start a right wing revolution by killing our right wing President?
I have never seen a shadowban because of a person using a VPN
Simply using a VPN would not get you banned. Recently some states banned porn over the internet unless you could prove that you were 21. Reddit stopped showing NSFW vids and gifs in those states based on the user IP. Many then simply used a VPN that made it appear that they were in Canada. And the NSFW stuff was all visible again. No accounts were affected for simply using a VPN
You have to find the link that goes directly to Admins. Then grab the permalink of the post or comment of the mod. And send it to the Admins to report them
they consider burning anything violence
Agreed

Agreed. Is there any Lemmy group where left, right, and center can discuss issues without some resorting to name calling?
Agreed. When I first came here I thought Lemmy would be open to all points of view.
Totally agree. As soon as you see name calling you know the person is a clown. And “I think” or “I feel” is not undeniable facts. I will disagree with “objective data” which sounds like not accepting the source. Forget the source. Something is either true or it isn’t.
Agreed and have never understood the reasoning of their Admins

Cookies are just one thing that can linger. I’ve also seen people not delete a reddit extension in their browser which also immediately identifies you
