Thanks for the kind words. I guess it’s just very difficult to fit into whatever mold these companies are looking for. It feels like they want a unicorn or a robot. And if you don’t somehow match their very specific buzzwords, your resume doesn’t get looked at.
It makes me feel like I’m not enough. I’m quite uncertain as to how I’ll make enough of a living going forward in the future, but I guess I shouldn’t worry about it too much. Stuff usually works out right? Haha
The whole article aside, looking for jobs really sucks. It’s painful. Honestly, I’m probably just weak, but job searching sends me into a spiral of depression that lasts weeks.
I just want artists to keep making art. That’s what makes it cool. If you just offload it onto a machine, it cheapens whatever you created. There’s definitely some good reasons to use AI. But it feels like the majority of companies are just using it for the buzzword, and in the hopes it will make them money
I can’t imagine doing this to yourself. But I can see what leads people to do this. I’ve been streaming for a year now, but I’ve drawn a line where it is only during my off hours, and I keep weekends for myself. I do it during my hobby time.
The issue with our society is that we’re constantly supposed to min max everything. If you aren’t all in, your chances of success are lower. We see this manifest in various ways. For example, companies try to skip out on safety if they’re allowed to. People will take on multiple jobs. Without restrictions, some of us will push ourselves to our limits because we see no way out of our situations.
On the flip side, you see people just giving up. Like with the laying flat movement. Why play the game if you’ll never win?
I don’t really have a point to my ramblings. It’s just something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I’m not really sure what the solution is as the system is bigger than us. I guess this disfunction is just a symptom of a greater issue.
I think I stopped using it in 2014? It was rough haha
Not defending AI here, but this sounds like people who are sick with some kind of illness are going down a rabbit hole with AI, and are unable to differentiate between imaginary and reality.
We had a family friend who worked with jewelry his whole life. He got some kind of poisoning from something he worked with. Lead? Mercury? I cannot recall
Anyways he started believing he was some kind of messenger from God. Nobody figured out it was poisoning for years. He was such a nice guy. He just wanted to help people. Once they figured it out, he was treated and went back to his normal self.
Every time I read more about Facebooks BS, the crazier it sounds. But I remember having a very similar issue with it. It kept feeding me political content I would get upset with. It was great at that, and so I stopped using it all together.
It truly seems like it’s a perfect storm of manipulation.
I didn’t encounter Brendan till late game. If you’re curious, you could just look up where he’s located. I honestly thought you were referring to that quest, lol. It’s very relevant to this post
The company I slave for hasn’t incorporated AI too much yet. But the way it actually has used AI made me question if we could have just used a computer program instead. None of it has been used in a way that seems game changing
That being said, if he owned tiktok, he would have access to an algorithm to push an agenda. Whereas twitch doesn’t really have the same kind of thing.
He kinda does. Amazon owns twitch
I have visited reddit only a small number of times since I left. But holy shit it’s unbearable now. AI answers everywhere. What’s the point?
I hadn’t tried it on mobile but I’m not seeing the settings for it either. I might be blind
I didn’t realize Firefox could do that! Been using it for a year now lol. Very cool. Thank you!
Thank you very much!
Is there a way around the pay wall?
Can’t seem to catch a break, huh? Why can’t we just have nice things?
Lol yes, that was going to be the one downside I was going to mention. I wasn’t sure if it was just unique to my situation, but I found it would lead me down a logical path. It would ask me if I had tried various solutions.
Eventually, I would hit a point where it wouldn’t know where to go any further, and it would land on “here’s some things you can do” but those options would be things I was actively trying and failing with.
So that was fun. In a way, it was great at confirming that I had thought of all the logical options.
Well that’s a bummer. Thank you for the info!
