Passing reminder that Goro Miyazaki is an architect who never wanted to make movies. He was brought on as an architecture advisor, and the studio kept pushing him to take more and more responsibility because he’s his father’s son, and his father encouraged it. The movie sucks because he’s not a director and he didn’t want to make it.

No, I understood that, I did read the article. I’m lambasting the fact that in an article about “brain chip gone wrong”, burying the “but human seems to be unharmed” at the end of an article is indicative of a set of priorities wildly different from my own.

The point is that this is the opening paragraph about something going wrong in human brain surgery, and the first thing they tell us is “don’t worry, the data’s fine”, rather than anything about the human. Indeed, you have to read to the last paragraph to find:

“Better” is such a strong word. It’s a kludge where you have to connect your phone and switch to a virtual wifi and then you can send up to ten photos at a snail’s pace. I kept using twitter because it’s such an annoying process.

I disagree? It skips to the highlight. If I came here to see the cool table, I wanna see the cool table, not the 15 minutes beforehand of the guy talking about tableology and his quest to find the optimal oak polish. Highlights don’t skip automatically by default, so it harms nothing having it there for videos you personally don’t want to use it on; if I’m in the mood to see a longform video, I will, and if I just want to see the cool thing displayed in the thumbnail, I will.

I also kind of enjoy the memey ones, like how most uploads of the beatmania song Second Heaven have the infamous SOMEBODY SCREAM tagged as a highlight. It’s a fun little moment of “someone else was here before me for the same thing, and they left a trace”, kinda like a dark souls message.

Maybe you might argue that should be a different category? But personally I think your definition of highlight is rather narrow

No, you see, you just get every citizen to pay a little bit into the bridge, and then everyone can use it. Maybe we put some of that money aside and establish a group of people to care for the bridge, upkeep and whatnot. It wouldn’t be fair to just pick them arbitrarily, so we should probably hold some kind of vote. These are wildly different medications. Meth is occasionally used for ADHD when nothing else works, but it requires careful medical supervision, for life. A pharmacist subbing out your amphetamine salts for meth will go to jail. Adderal is not meth, any more than caffeine is adrenaline, or morphine is fentanyl.

You say you “have family” with ADHD; do you mean you have multiple different family members on different medications? Because 9 outta 10 times someone tells me they know someone on “meth” for ADHD, they’ve misread methylphenadate; Ritalin.

I live in a super tiny town on the edge of nowhere, so I only met like six people, who all regularly streetpassed with each other. So I set my router up with fakepass or whatever it was called, the software that let me streetpass with people all over the world, and that was huge fun. Then they set up some kind of thing where every Mcdonalds in NA was streetpass linked or something, so I didn’t have to do the router thing anymore, and I started making regular trips to the park beside McDonalds, because their wifi just barely reached and I’d get streetpasses.

I bought the Plaza DLC, whatever it was called, and I played every game for hours. It was just so fun to see that there were other people doing the same thing as me. It made everything feel a bit like an MMO. I wish it’d come back for the Switch 2.

Ah, now this is an interesting question. I can certainly see an argument that ads are necessary to support “free” content, although personally in many cases I prefer to pay a subscription to support content rather than being subjected to ads.

On the other hand, not everyone can afford a subscription, so offering a both ad-supported and paid-for options is ideal, imo. Well, at least as ideal as it gets in a “grind your hustle or you’ll starve” economy.

The last manufacturers stopped making them 10 years ago. There’s basically just one guy “making” floppies these days, and he doesn’t actually manufacture them, he just buys used ones for pennies on the dollar, formats and tests them, and sells them on. Not one company has made new floppies in a decade. A shocking number of industries are dependant on just like, this one random dude.

Not “the government had to accept them”, but “businesses were required to submit them”.

It’s not a hypothetical problem, there was even news a few years ago about how businesses were complaining they had to send in a dozen+ disks at a time because of file formats.

The laws were written at the dawn of the digital age, in the 70s and 80s, stipulating specific storage media, and just never got updated because the government didn’t view it as a problem.
