  • About as much as I trust other drivers on the road.

As in I give it the benefit of the doubt but if something seems off I take precautions while monitoring and if it seems dangerous I do my best to avoid it.

In reality it means that I rarely check it but if anything seems off I remove it and if I have the time and energy I further check the actual code.

My general approach is minimalism, so I don’t use that many unknown/small projects to begin with.

  • Imagine being smarter than everyone around you, constantly speaking like you are explaining to a child. You can never truly be angry at people because how could they know any better?

That is how people who think they have a high IQ think, those who actually have it are probably mostly successful academics who are actually pushing humanity forward and are probably not assholes about it because for someone to truly and deeply understand a complex subject they must not only be smart, but also dedicate significant time and effort into learning.

I always found Tony Stark to be a funny character. He is basically the embodiment of what stupid people who they are smart want to be. Like that scene where he figures out time travel in a single night because he is so smart, but of course even an infinitely intelligent being would still need a few weeks of reading just to catch of on the knowledge needed to even understand quantum mechanics properly.

  • How nice, live as the 0.0000001% that owns the world and make up most of the big evils in the world from the age of 34 to the age of 70 and then from 70 to 90 transition to the top 0.0001% and “not die rich”

A real sacrifice, what a philanthropist, brave.

I’m just here being a top 25% fully aware of my privilege for being born in a rich country and working in a well paying job, and I still donate more then him in terms of percentage of my net worth. (Bill gates donates about 0.8-1.6% of his net worth annually, I donate about 5-10% annually) and I truly believe that no one should be a billionaire.

  • Sentient in a nutshell is the ability to feel, be aware and experience subjective reality.

Can an LLM be sad, happy or aware of itself and the world? No, not by a long shot. Will it tell you that it can if you nudge it? Yes.

Actual AI might be possible in the future, but right now all we have is really complex networks that can do essentially basic tasks that just look impressive to us because the are inherently using our own communication format.

If we talk about sentience, LLMs are the equivalent of a petridish of neurons connected to a computer (metaphorically) and only by forming a complex 3d structure like a brain can they really reach sentience.
