YouTube on Firefox is a complete no go as far as I’ve tried. And not sure how much Firefox is to blame since other video players work just fine on it.
But no, I’m using Opera or other chromium browsers for Youtube nowadays. Still jitters from time to time.
Honestly feels like that’s necessary, with how much youtube jitters on my gaming rig. At least before I remember that YouTube runs like shit on every machine.

The nice thing is, you can pretty easily run both and switch around. Just get a distro with one, and then it’s usually just 1 or 2 commands to get the other as a choice on the login screen. KDE and Gnome apps are also largely compatible, regardless of desktop environment.
I’ve been using KDE mostly, it’s just nice being able to customize it so easily without too much technical knowledge of the environment or hoping someone already made an extension for it like on Gnome. Then again, some may like the simplicity of shopping around for extensions and calling it a day, or later even editing the extensions.
Recently, for my tiny laptop I switched to gnome, it’s also just pretty :)
Assuming we can get AGI. So far there’s been little proof we’re any closer to getting an AI that can actually apply logic to problems that aren’t popular enough to be spelled out a dozen times in the dataset it’s trained on. Ya know, the whole perfect scores on well known and respected collage tests, but failing to solve slightly altered riddles for children? It being literally incapable of learning new concepts is a pretty major pitfall if you ask me.
I’m really sick and tired of this “we just gotta make a machine that can learn and then we can teach it anything” line. It’s nothing new, people were saying this shit since fucking 1950 when Alan Turing wrote it in a paper. A machine looking at an unholy amount of text and evaluation based on a new prompt, what is the most likely word to follow, IS NOT LEARNING!!! I was sick of this dilema before LLMs were a thing, but now it’s just mind numbing.

I strangely find my self praising apple lately. Not because they’re good or because I stopped hating their guts. But just because microsoft has become SOO SHIT!

Hmm, yea actually… I kinda forgot about it, since it technically works, but VLCs in LLMS pretty much stopped being a thing ever since I switched to Linux. A powerful tool, the loss of which forced me to learn how to more effectively utilize more primitive instruments and effects. I admit, Linux is lacking in high quality music composition apps.
Personally haven’t encountered anything that didn’t run on wine or proton. I know shit like Adobe and some multi-player live service games are intentionally made to NOT run on Linux, but I couldn’t care less. If I wanted to burn money for the hell of it, I’d spend it on something fun.
I mean there’s a point to be a had. A blanket age restriction is probably the wrong way to go about it, but like, stranger danger doesn’t apply to just the physical world. We teach kids the importance of not talking to strangers, but are completely fine with literal nazi forums. Nobody would let their kid attend a KKK meeting, but yet again, a literal nazi forum is fine?
Anybody still using Google should take a deep long look in the mirror. Not for any moral reasons, just a sort of “how much do I enjoy wasting time skipping adds” reason. It’s what made me switch to a different search engine. Because Google is becoming borderline unusable with how far down the actual results are now.

Thanks for not providing even a single example… I tried looking around and only found relatively niche use cases, like them being more reliable and resistant (while also being lighter) for extreme environments or infrequent use, for example emergency equipment. And then some people choosing em because they don’t feel like investing more into it, when they have only a couple devices that drain the batteries slowly, let’s say a clock that lasts a year. That could be easily fixed if you could exchange empty batteries for full ones like with gass tanks and similar, and the prior examples aren’t a good enough reason to have such batteries in the convenience store.

Honestly don’t feel like a slight reduction on a month long battery life is of much concern. As for waste, I’d say being able to replace a dead battery should reduce waste if anything, also nobody said it must be a AA (on a side note, you seem to imply the use of non-rechargeable AA, which holy shit, if they’re still a thing, must be purged, sweet jesus…who’s dumb enough to waste money on em???). Personally, I’d much prefer having a second battery charging separately somewhere, ready to swap, as opposed to being forced to stop using my computer. Or like the Nintendo Switch I mentioned before, have some spot I can put it away for charing, that way the mouse is also cleaned up and not fucking dangling and wobbling around freely on the table.
I don’t understand what was wrong with the original version that just took 2 AA batteries. Reaching for the AA charger and swapping cells not awkward enough or something?
Smart and elegant design would be hiding a battery charger in the iMac it self (maybe even use something smaller than AA), not expect you to flip and plug in your mouse every time ya leave it. The Nintendo Switch, while a completely different form factor, is a great example of an elegant (you could even say “wireless”) charging solution.
I’m getting really sick of the Apple esthetic of sticking out wires, be it the mouse or the dozen dongles for every portable device they now make. Uh! Can’t forget the world’s only pen that needs charging, for seemingly no reason.
