You might be able to see where a connection is going using the resource monitor in task manager when attempting the check
Could you not use a keygen or grab a serial from somewhere to get a “valid” key and block the app from the internet via firewall to prevent the check from calling home?
Sorry I’m not familiar with how this specific game checks validity.
Edit: Google pulled up this workaround at https://www.barik.net/posts/multiplayer-neverwinter-nights-on-local-lan/
Simply edit the file:
%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and add the following lines to remap the Neverwinter Nights official servers to localhost:
127.0.0.1 nwmaster.bioware.com
127.0.0.1 nwnauth.kr.infogrames.com
Users are probably reporting less too since mods are useless now after the API debacle resulted in many of the ones who gave a shit getting ousted or neutered.
I certainly stopped bothering since they fully committed to becoming a (n even bigger) cesspit.
Because the article is likely just more GenAI vomit, and an LLM doesn’t have any degree of deductive reasoning ability to begin with.
Lol, OK Plex, cya.
They’re honestly lucky I was willing to pay the $2.99 or whatever it was to be able to access MY server, using MY internet and cell data, to access MY media files from MY phone. Plenty fair a price for a nice app, might’ve paid a few bucks more but they can screw off trying to charge a monthly fee for… nothing in particular in my usage case.
Literally just set up Jellyfin w/ Tailscale which took all of 10 minutes and works just as well. GG no re 🖕
Same, I was under the impression that this was fairly common knowledge, but it’s good to have it openly announced by some authority on the matter.
Smart Audiobook Player has been my go-to for a couple years now. Free version is pretty feature complete, good performance too. I’ll listen all day at work and still be at like 70-80% battery on my old ass phone, whereas the shitty audible app will leave me at like 40% or less with minimal interaction.
qbit on pc, flud on android
Funny enough, Hulu has been doing a paid+ads tier from the get-go, long before other services started jumping on this bandwagon.
Never made sense to me why anyone would want it then, and it still doesn’t make sense even now that all the services are offering similar plans. People pining for that cable TV experience maybe?
I’ve always had a good experience with whatbox.ca
