DDG is my go-to, it’s normally good enough. Google used to be better at showing searches so I’d still go check out then if I couldn’t find something.
But since their ad strategy changed to favour paid suppliers and their servers are getting switched to handle heavier computing, Google is starting to suck now. So honestly its probable that you’ll need to work harder to find what you’re looking for regardless of which engine you use.
We have had this same type of decision so many times in our history. Fossil fuels, antibiotics, plastics, AI. And we always have to learn too late that there were big, avoidable mistakes.
Might be better to just accept that and adapt to the fact that we are just horrible at making this type of choice.
How do you use Plex? Can it work on a fire stick?
They absolutely would be profitable, it’s just that those costs would then be passed on to the consumer. People would see energy costs skyrocket to make up the difference.
The oil companies still have a product most of the world needs and people will (and have) killed to get it. We’d rebel against a government they tried
In order to get passed oil we need to move to alternatives like EVs.
Depending on tech companies to not be evil is always a losing strategy. Tax them harder and build a better alert system.
Lol Meta has some good PR. The government did not stop Meta from sharing news. They stopped them from profiting off someone else’s work without paying for it. Meta was told they had to start paying and decided to stop showing it entirely.
Really, extras have been being replaced for decades with lots of ways. You don’t need to fill a stadium with people, just use cut outs. Or CGI in an army instead of paying for a lot of people and costumes. This is the next logical step
They can. It’s just that it happens suspiciously often after there’s a surge in his negative images
Weren’t they already doing that? I swear, you read some posts and it’s like a PR team is trying to get a story buried. Like after a Leo DiCaprios dating history got air time you started seeing him in more memes the next days, and TILs about how he was a good actor
Out of the goodness of their heart, with no ulterior motives to worry about!
That’s true, but irrelevant to the women who’s company was just shut down.
One of the first interactions I had with tiktok was when a woman went viral for doing a dance video with some pop song and had text running along the screen about the death of her abusive husband. It was so weird seeing this grown woman do a kids dance to some Kpop song while text is detailing who he beat her. All put on public display forever.
Social media does weird things to people’s brains man.
Yoho!
To what end? The more spread out they are the less engagement they have and the sub flounders. Look at what happened to r/android. Went from being one of the largest communities on lemmy.world to puttering along on their new instance, losing a good chunk of users back to Reddit where everything is simple and in one place.
Because it actually does make a difference an dthats why they started two communities on different instances.
What discourages people to join is not knowing which instance to join. Which is exactly how we got two communities branching off like this.
What discourages people from joining is acting like “federation Yay” is actually a selling point instead of a nuisance that you have to accept. Just look at the downvotes this got in minutes. How is that encouraging?
They should probably join Lemmy.world tbh
Dude was making fun of the people he fired on twitter, mocking people who weren’t sure they still had a job.
I hope they took every trade secret they had.
They are using YT shorts. The next video auto populates with something the algorithm thinks you’ll watch for 15 seconds and it’s usually correct. Its like a slot machine. Quick and easy entertainment that people can lose hours in
