2004 Nokia bricks are probably still around. Them things were indestructible.
It sounds a bit nerdy, but dedicate some time just to learning a specific command once in a while. Start with something straightforward like ls
. Read through the man
pages and try out all the different options for it. After a while, you’ll master quite a few commands and will be able to string them together to perform more complex tasks. It’s definitely easier learning the system piece by piece like this. I used to learn by just jumping right in to a complex task, but I ended up with just a superficial understanding most of the time. Now days I try to be more deliberate about reading all the documentation and actually learning the tool/command/etc.
Also, Arch has the archinstall
script that greatly simplifies the install process if you need it. You’ll definitely learn more doing it manually though. I’ve been using Arch as my daily driver for a year now and I love it.
I tighten both screws. With an impact driver. And a dab of LocTite for good measure.
Don’t let anybody tell you you’re not humpable, because you’re bumpable, I hope this doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable.
I love i3wm. Incredibly lightweight and minimalistic.
When you get this to work, hit me up for some venture capital.
I used a Mac SE/30 running OS 7 quite a bit in the early 90’s. I remember it being incredibly reliable; in fact, I can’t even remember what a crash looked like on a Mac, whereas I can still picture the BSOD from Windows 3.1.
I don’t remember noticing much difference in snappiness or intuitiveness between Mac and Windows back then though. Both were pretty easy to learn, even for people with limited computer experience. Anything with a hard drive felt snappy at the time, because the previous generation of computers all ran on floppy disks which were slow as molasses.
I enjoy fixing things, even other people’s shit, so I categorize that time as entertainment instead of work. It’s time I’d otherwise be using to doomscroll on Lemmy.
It’s raining men by the weather girls.
When I read “never used a computer with a keyboard and mouse” my first thought was “wow, they only ever used punched cards” until I realized you meant they only used touch screens.
It’s a series of tubes, actually. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_of_tubes

WTF are you smoking?
Edit: Ok, I see it now
Primal Fear (1996). It’s arguable whether or not the antagonist is truly evil though.
A 3.5mm-to-Bluetooth adapter that can do simultaneous headphones + mic. I have a device with no Bluetooth, only a 3.5mm TRRS jack (headphones+mic). I want to connect it to a wireless Bluetooth headset but the only adapters I can find won’t do both at the same time, only one or the other.
