I honestly don’t see a reason why anybody would want something like that
Famous last words.
I feel similarly, except I wish more users were interacted with my sports communities too. Guess it’s a “have your cake and eat it too” kind of problem.
I don’t really hang out on Reddit anymore; I mostly get the impression that he crushed a mod rebellion from stories like these that refer to a mod rebellion.
I’m trying to get a team together to do something similar which you can join if you’re interested: https://dougs-digital-garden.netlify.app/notes/trailsapp/
Erm… Writing a manifest is like, an hour of work for a dev? Supporting PWAs is like… years? So um, not really comparable.
You’re probably not gonna have zsh either, though, but I wouldn’t recommend using sh as your shell on your personal dev machine 🤷♂️
It would be awesome and an absolute coup for the fediverse and you can’t convince me otherwise.
I just spent last night migrating off goodreads and moving my lists out of libby, and there are definitely still some rough edges, but it’ll get you there.
Also, I’m open to people who disagree with my assessment that Lemmy is superior – if things like number of MAUs or site stability are the most important thing to you, then you’ll definitely disagree and that’s fine! I more meant that people can change and evolve over time and that doesn’t make them hypocrites.
I think both things can be true – we have a superior replacement, so Reddit is now of considerable lower value, but also Reddit was super important to me and I’m still deeply invested in it’s “demise”.
I certainly think that reports of Reddit’s death are greatly exaggerated and also would like to see less Reddit-related content, but I think there’s space for people who were avid Redditors to have become true believers in the fediverse.
I follow my favorite Lemmy users on Mastodon – since they’re both on activitypub, you can use the one from the other. I like it much better because that’s kinda Mastodon’s whole jam, following users. Here’s what it looks like from Mastodon looking at my account
Edit: I seem to have found it using the search query “site:vk.com ITC Founder’s Caslon”
🤷♂️ we canceled our Netflix account, so that’s about all we can do
🤞 that corps will decide that it’s more profitable to make one device for the whole world that complies with EU regulations, rather than making a removable battery version for the EU and one without for the rest of the world, but realistically, yeah, we’re gonna need this to have standard enforced globally.
For sure! My comment was ambiguous; I meant we could consider running government-backed instances of open-source, standards-based social media, not “let’s give tumblr a pile of money”.
Thanks for being chill in the replies. I read this back just now and it came off a lot more hostile than the jokey/flip tone I had in mind. I don’t want you to delete your account; I like social media and I wanna hear your perspective, I just meant to kid about posting comments creating more social media which is against your stated intent.
You can do your part by deleting your account now!
Maybe it’s time to socialize social media? All these activitypub-based projects are open source, open governance, and many of them are receiving government grants already, so let’s just pay the server costs via taxpayer money and call it a public service.
I feel like Apple could have foreseen this when they marketed a dev kit as a consumer product.
