I left Reddit because of the 3rd party app ban. The core ethos of the Fediverse was not what was appealing for me. It is a feature, to be sure, but it wasn’t why I came here. I just like the Reddit format, and aside from Reddit, I don’t know anywhere that aggregates content and discussion on the scale Reddit does (aside from this side of Fediverse now). If it wasn’t the 3rd party applications, I definitely would be jumping ship with the current censorship, so leaving was inevitable.
With Bluesky, I just do not care about it. If Bluesky didn’t exist, I wouldn’t have a Mastodon account. I only had a Twitter account because my brother and friend told me in college that if I didn’t make one, they would make one on my behalf to tweet about me and my daily stuff, lol. Bluesky could come out 3 hours from now and announce that it will donate all revenue to the GOP, and I’d just delete the account and be done with the format. It’s purely a protest account, and I landed on Bluesky instead of Mastodon in the moment. And because I don’t care about that format, I have no reason to want to migrate the account to Mastodon. And, if I somehow do come to care about that format in the future, I’d rather start completely over on Mastodon than have an old account with old stuff on it.
Sure. My goal isn’t to be on the next Twitter, or Mastodon, or anything on short format social media. It’s to make Twitter look worse by inflating Bluesky account numbers.
Idk why anyone argues it. I’m on it, but only because I want to support Not Twitter®. I’m there to just be user no. 1663987 who doesn’t want to be on Twitter. I post a stupid thought, some sports commentary, and scroll the feed for a minute or two. If it went away tomorrow, I’d have 0 negative effects on my life in even the most miniscule way.
Like…I like it there, and people seem to want an alternative to Twitter pretty bad, but idk if Bluesky is it. But I also don’t care to join Mastodon, as this kinda format isn’t something I care about or take seriously, and I’d rather get information here. If I get a Mastodon account in the future, though, I’d rather not have it tied directly back to my spite posting account lol
No, I’m an identical twin. Quite literally another me lmao
I wonder if you could do it like the aggregation apps that used to exist for like…FB, Twitter, Instagram, where you can access/post from multiple accounts. My big thing is I hate having a dozen apps that do the same thing; so having an aggregator app is nice. For people who want the singular account, you could see both Bsky and Mastodon. For people like yourself, you could log in to both accounts and have separate feeds, just homed on the same app. And I imagine it’d be nicer, because Activity Pub would be the base, and it could display different UIs based on what information is being pulled, so it isn’t just like a Twitter feed on FB. You could get the Lemmy view on Lemmy, Twitter view on Bsky/Mastodon, Instagram on PixelFed, etc.
Someone is wrong lol. NFL, for example, cannot do anything outside of Twitter at this time. They are apparently working on it, but it’s gotta be implemented league-wide, so it’s taking some time. Idk if they’re even trying to get onto Mastodon, last I heard it was just Bluesky.
This is a large org with hundreds of millions of fans, with no presence on Fediverse really. I’m sure there are mirror accounts, but none are official.
Dudes downfall is tragic. Hero to villain speed run, and it could potentially be blamed on his stroke, although I didn’t follow him closely enough in the beginning to see if there were signs
Alternatively, someone who is posting unpopular shit gets downvoted of their own accord, and blames it on politics. Almost assuredly has shouted “leave politics out of blank” but then injects politics into everything.
I’m not going to die clinging to old ideals. I have friends, family, colleagues, and clients who will be negatively physically and mentally affected by changes proposed. When it comes down to it, I’m not going to care about accuracy of the message. They’ve shown no regard for rule of law, constitutionality, or empathy or concern for others. I get it, “don’t become them”, but I’m not going to let myself get hung up on those details anymore. It’s a different game now.
Sure, but they are a cult in power. If I have to choose, I choose the cult I can identify with.
I just think it’s dumb to turn your nose up at the message because part of it isn’t true. Absolutely, dispel the untrue parts. We don’t disagree there, but it’s not all or nothing; true parts still exist within. Help give people the tools to see the error in part, not just blanket disavow.
In my opinion, that is. I’m not a political strategist, otherwise I’d be working with the devil on selling defective baby carriages in Africa. Or “Cyber trucks” as we call them here in the US.
How? It has literally not hurt the GOP even a little bit. If anything, it’s strengthened the base. We aren’t a different species, and the crowd dynamics at play are similar.
It seems pretty easy that this is some kind of psy op to spread apathy.
It’s just that easy to spin things online. Let people do what they want to do, we aren’t a monolith. We can all operate how we see fit.
I’m not going to wait; he’s said he wants to end the Dept of Education for months now. He’s the people’s choice for “He does what he says” (despite all the contrary evidence). Why would I wait for him to find a gun and point it to move out of the way or defend myself?
I’m also not super worried about the details; Medicaid is on the chopping block. Are we worried if it’s the left hand or the right hand getting cut? It’s a program that will receive some massive cuts, without the necessary oversight afforded to Congress by the Constitution. I’m not worried about the amount or the people involved, I’m worried about the action and process. It’s the same argument as “when they go low, we go high”. We’re working from an obsolete standard. It’s reading from a “how to untie a knot” manual while being burned at the stake.
Idk. I remain firmly convinced one of the better ways to enact change (secondary to voting my chosen candidates in) is to call my representatives and voice my opinion on upcoming legislation. If I wait until the bills are introduced to make my calls, there is no guarantee the contact is made by then. One quick example with easy dates is Obamacare: introduced to house Mar 17, 2010. Voted on in-house 3/21, voted on in Senate by 3/25. That is 6 business days to be introduced and pass both House and Senate. If I had objections, that leaves me little time to contact and do my little spiel and for staffers to “review” it as needed.
Make no mistake, I’m not naive to where messages go, as I’m not a lobbyist with a checkbook. But listening to someone on the internet telling me “don’t worry about it yet, everything is fine” seems an awful lot like drumming up apathy. These Medicaid and Dept of Ed threats directly threaten my job and clients, so I will absolutely not be waiting until the 11th hour to voice an opinion.
Lol so the solution is to wait until it does happen to react or even speak on it?
What about the current president asking for protestors to be shot in the legs? That seems pretty threatening, especially when viewed apolitically. Where are the repercussions for that?
He also called for Israel to “get the war over with” instead of dragging it out. That seems like pretty implicit calls for increased violence. Are there repercussions for that?
There are a hell of a lot of free speech purists until it’s something they do not like. A lot of violence being called for, until it’s against people they feel do not deserve it. Standards are being applied differently depending on what side you’re on. This isn’t to say that you do or don’t support the president or the things he or his supporters say, but there are clearly 2 different applications of censorship being used. One side has 0 restriction and celebrates it, and the other side is dangerous and needs to be silenced at all costs.
That’s not a real leftist, that’s a republican cosplaying as one to give them a bad name. At least, that was the script given out about the Jan 6th traitors, right? It wasn’t Trump fans, it was Antifa. And also about the assassination attempt (he spent $10 on a donation a decade ago, he’s a Democrat).
It’s super easy to just lie about shit because you don’t like it. So I’m going to.
It’s a fake account to create more chaos and diversion while stuff around us gets worse.
They don’t though. And continuing to remain there continues to push the interests further and further away from the user base. There is absolutely 0 reason for them to do any of those things or implement those changes; it costs money and would decrease the power they wield over the users, and this would drop share prices.
Renaining there is a continued vote of confidence in the direction of the site and it’s propaganda.
In my experience, the “lifetime” fees are tied to the Apple ID, so it should move devices with you, so long as you have access to that Apple account. And if not, that’s at least how it works on Android.
Not to say the price is fair at $80…I think before the Reddit 3rd party stuff, I’d paid for a fair few Reddit apps for no ads, but it was to support a product I liked, and it was maybe $6 at most for it per app. I probably wouldn’t go above $15, and it would have to be a really good app…
I think he’d prefer you to make assumptions.
