I’m not clear on what your bugs are, but if it’s like, you run a command in the terminal and a bunch of scary sounding messages come up, that’s normal. That’s just how it likes to be
If it’s been a while since you’ve seen used it, then I’d say Linux is probably worth another shot. It’s come a long way, and it only gets better with age
Counterpoint: if people feel like they can’t talk about these things then they’ll never talk about them and the condition often worsens.
I also feel pretty powerless to help in a meaningful way. But I’m not going to shun someone who’s struggling either
I’ve done a couple tours myself, it’s no picnic
I feel it’s one of those jobs that everyone should do at some point in their life. That or customer / food service. Either exposes you to some of the rudest, most entitled people, and if everyone had that exposure I feel there’d be more empathy to go around
I tell you though, hearing people yell at your mom all day is great motivation to stay in school to find a better job

I learned that people suck, and I still hate talking on the phone.

Spotify has vaguely attributed the need for the API changes to improving security:
- In its blog post, Spotify says that it rolled out the changes with “the aim of creating a more secure platform.”
- In a community forum post, a Spotify employee says that “we want to reiterate the main message from the blog that we’re committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all Spotify stakeholders.” The post has many pages of replies from frustrated developers.
- In a statement to The Verge, Spotify spokesperson Brittney Le Roy says that “as part of our ongoing work to address the security challenges that many companies navigate today, we’re making changes to our public APIs.”
This is fairly disingenuous. The affected endpoints are all GET requests, which are read-only requests that provide some data about the track/artist/playlist/etc. There isn’t really very much potential to do anything insecure here.
The only thing they’re securing is their hegemony.
In English we have an idiom, “same shit, different day,” which means dealing with the same sort of unpleasant task until it’s routine. Do you have something similar?
This Hamburg court thing sounds like something I’d call “same shit, different pay,” which would be like when you have an issue with your boss so you appeal to their boss, and find out that they’re just as bad except they’re higher in the organization.

I feel like “don’t laugh at your own jokes” is a piece of ancient wisdom from the entertainment industry.
Like, if you’re a performer and you’re laughing so hard that you can’t get the punchline out, then it prevents people from actually hearing the joke.
When you consider that performers in traditional media have a limited time slot to work in, then taking a break to laugh could be considered a waste or unprofessional.
I don’t think that long-format content has the same problem. If you’re making an online video or a podcast then you’re not limited by time. Authenticity is more important than fitting into a five minute set
Yeah, I’m not sure this is the generational thing that the author is trying to make it out to be. It seems to me like one of those things that leans on personal preference.
The author’s sample for the behavior of generations is a few anecdotes from personal friends. How many friends does a person have, 3, or 30, or 300? That means n is pretty small when there’s something like 3 billion mellenials
“Hustler’s University”
I’m sure the intention is a play on Hustle culture and it’s supposed to teach you that grindset mindset, but it wasn’t too long ago that “Hustler” meant “con artist” and, well, it’s his university
Surely that’s not what paragon of humanity and alleged sex trafficker Andrew Taint meant when naming it. He’s got the ego, but I’m not sure he’s clever enough to flaunt it

I guess we don’t have to worry about our data because the people selling us the machines tell us that our concerns are a misconception.
Also kind of the manufacturer to tell us that their gimmick is not, in fact, a gimmick

I don’t ever want to oversell a self-help book because their usefulness really depends on the person reading it, but honestly this one has been life changing for me too.

I don’t disagree, but it is a challenging problem. If you’re filtering for “die” then you’re going to find diet, indie, diesel, remedied, and just a whole mess of other words.
I’m in the camp where I believe they really should be reading all their inputs. You’ll never know what you’re feeding the machine otherwise.
However I have no illusions that they’re not cutting corners to save money
I would rather be misinformed than disinformed. Either way you have a chance to learn and grow, but at least with misinformation you can come by it honestly. Disinformation is far more grave of an issue
They say ignorance is bliss, so I’d probably be happier to know a little. Unfortunately, I already know more than a little and it’s not easy to unlearn, so I guess I’m cursed with awareness now
However, if you only know a little then you’re more susceptible to (dis/mis)information. That can have a tremendously negative impact on your quality of life - although I suppose you might not be aware of it
The world would be a better place if we all knew more about it. The only reason why knowledge is cursed is because with knowledge we see how unfairly a few humans treat each other
When I was a teenager I felt this way. I didn’t ask to be here, and so far life has sucked pretty hard.
My stance has softened as I’ve aged. I still wish I’d never been born, mind you, but I don’t blame my parents for having kids. They just did what came naturally for them.
You can’t consent to being born, and that upset me a lot. But it’s not like they could have asked my permission anyway. Might as well make the most of the situation.
