  • Here’s mine, and the exact opposite of another “unpopular” opinion here which is upvoted:

    Guns.

First of all pandora’s box has been opened in the US and can’t be closed, there’s 600,000,000+ in private hands with no registry to know where/who and trillions of rnds of ammo and everyone who has any of that intends on keeping it. “American gun owners” actually end up being a larger army than most countries militaries, you’re just not going to be able to short of finding a way to Infinity rock (or whatever Avengers sucks) them out of existence.

Secondly, good. I’d rather people be able to defend themselves if need be than not, be that against forces foreign or domestic, or against the crackhead down the street with a knife. All the way from the improbable fighting our government, or red dawn style fighting a foreign power on our soil, to the more likely Black Panther style activity and defending against your average deadly threats, or even just hunting for food in the event of a small/large catastrophic event that affects supply chains (if you can’t get food at the store because of a natural disaster or something, at least food is walking around, it’s just more work). It should never be your first resort, but you shouldn’t exclude it from being your last resort.

  • Running a framework 16 with FedoraKDE and before that a 4gb ram 2015 toshiba satellite (in 2024) running Fedora (regular Gnome) and haven’t had one of these issues. Most issues I have had were caused by me, every now and again I run into a regular old bug in something and half the time that gets fixed pretty quick.

I wish I could help, but we just have opposite experiences unfortunately. That said, because of this I don’t think it’s “linux,” or I’d likely have at least similar experiences.

OH for a while I did have a bug where VLC would stutter playing video and nobody had a fix, so I uninstalled/reinstalled VLC and it works now. Idk, I’ve had shit like that happen on windows too though, it’s basically the software version of power cycling hardware when it acts up.

  • Yes lmao, where you been? People want to be offended now to the degree where they look for things that aren’t really offensive but they can use it for sympathy likes.

Maybe I just have tuned my ability to notice it from years of “nothing is ever good enough” parents, teachers, and employers, but it’s literally the same mechanism that made my mom say “well a B is good but you need to be getting As. (And later) Well that low A is good but you need to get it higher.” Or my boss just always saying “faster faster” no matter how much “faster faster” you go, so I now just say “you got it boss” and continue at my pace instead of breaking my back just to hear “faster faster” again in response like he’s some kind of weird Gull that gained the ability to mimic human speech it can’t comprehend. It all comes from the same place, plus a dash of clickbait.

  • I want to make a drone and a dropper for meshtastic and totally-not-weed purposes, I wouldn’t be making bombs, but I gotta say, it really isn’t that hard to make bombs if you did want to.

Sure we can’t get the RPG heads to duct tape on em, but a primer positioned over a pin, some gunpowder and lead shot, a weight in the front of the shell to ensure it falls right, and a 3d printed shell will be pretty effective against soft targets. “Conveniently” for bombers here there isn’t much armor to contend with in the streets, nobody has tanks/BMPs or even pelvic plates on their carrier (hell not even many plate carriers day to day, even though people do have them.)

Hell, the Boston marathon bombing was done with a pressure cooker from Kohls and nails from Home Depot, sure those can’t be drone delivered, but explosives aren’t actually unobtanium, you just need to do a little more work.

And again for the FBI guy in the back, I’m not making bombs, I’m using it for radio, and I don’t even have one yet because I wanna try and find one I can program to follow me to extend my radio range (which I’m like 80% sure is possible.)

  • Go for a popular/“beginner” distro (basically mint or fedora or fedoraKDE, or Bazzite for gaming) so you can search up anything you need, and before you install anything test it all out with the live boot disk you created; keep backups and don’t be afraid to fuck up, at worst you reinstall and you can script much of the set up process; and do not be afraid of the terminal, learn its secrets, watch a “bash beginner” and “linux terminal beginner” video or a few on youtube and follow along like it’s a class, you’ll be fine.

That’s it, you’ll have specific questions later, but for now that’s all you need.
