has Nintendo already enacted the “we can brick your device whenever we want to” policy?

Xbox and PlayStation have that yet they never do it and tbh I doubt Nintendo will ever do so either. Its more for legal protection especially in cases where the user bricks their system.

I saw a YouTube video claiming someone got their switch 2 bricked already. Didn’t watch the video itself, so I don’t know the details, but I assume a mod attempt was made.

That policy has been in their EULAs ever since the Wii. It’s nothing new.

doesn’t have to be new to be real shitty!

With their big recent widespread warning I figured it was a new policy.

didn’t know it was just a reminder.

Disagree—people are looking to throw knives at Nintendo. Microsoft and Sony are just as evil while more expensive, yet nobody’s saying boo to them! There’s a bias against Nintendo, showing up in ways like this, and it’s fucking annoying.

I’ll disagree with your disagreement. (Sort of.)

Micro$oft and $ony get boo’d plenty. I’ve witnessed lemmy to be largely anti-corporate. It’s just in this case a lot of folks don’t seem to understand that console-bricking is done by all 3. I blame sensationalism and folks being lazy.

Also that Nintendo always seem to lead the charge on anti-piracy, so this is another one of those “of course Nintendo would pull something like this” moments.

The laws needs to change before Nintendo stops. The whole thing of backing up games is not even explicitly legal or illegal in a lot of countries. Currently they are just following the law and a lot of decisions are made together with the Anglo-Saxon brand of Nintendo America

All the consoles + PC screw you over in some way, shape, or form. It’s just a question of what you are willing to put up with and your red lines for what you don’t want. I wouldn’t go so far as to say there’s a bias against Nintendo though, it’s just the most talked about company since they’re the biggest console player at the moment.

people complain about Microsoft and Sony all the time.

as you say, Nintendo is “just as evil”, they are all shitty companies that treat their customers like dirt.

Nintendo seems to be the most litigious of all of them, and is now warning people they’ll brick their devices. that their customers bought.

there’s not a bias against Nintendo, there’s a retaliation for their shitty policies that they continue to enact despite their customers protesting and making their preferences known.

it’s literally so bad at this point that I’ve decided not to buy anymore Nintendo products.
