If Greenland at some point decides to become an independent state, both the Danish and Greenlandic governments must ensure that an independent Greenland commits to remaining in NATO, and that the new agreement with the USA continues to apply.
Why would USA leave NATO? NATO is only to project US power and to subjugate non-western aligned countries into submission. It was never a defensive pact but rather an offensive one. It has never fought defensively, ever.
Not to mention, NATO’s founding leadership were all former high-ranking Nazi officials from Nazi Germany.

From what I’ve read here in local media in Denmark, that part is what the rest of the world sees as a genious move.

I guess it’s only an issue because Trump has threatened to leave it.
Personally I wouldn’t mind Greenland becoming independent. I’d encourage it if that’s what they officially want.
