tbh i think Crooks was genuine wacko lone wolf(the blackrock connection is too tenuous without anything else), and the Iranian threat is maybe real from some faction of leadership, but its a ‘standing threat’ and there wasn’t any increased danger to him during this time compared to any other time Trumps been in range since the war
